Engine Idle Speed

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed that whilst my 98 996 C4 usually idles at about 850rpm sometimes it sits there idling at 1100 rpm. Is this correct and if not what is likely to be the problem? Many thanks,

Brian

The tickover speed should be 700rpm. It sounds to me like you might have an air leak somewhere. A diagnostic check would be a good place to start to see if there are any error codes stored.

Faulty O2 sensor(s) will also cause these symptoms to happen, and the tickover will often jump up and down between these speeds - a quick diagnostic will let you know if this is the problem.

If your local to the midlands im based in Bromsgrove and will gladly run a diagnostic for you.

Thanks Guys,

Apologies for the delay in responding. I will mention this to the OPC when I next take it in (I presume these things will be covered by the extended warranty?). I'm based around Gloucester so if not I will happily come to Bromsgrove!

Brian
