Engine lid dropping

Checked the oil on Sunday and the engine lid kept closing - a real pain. Did not have time to check how it works but I guess the pressure in a strut has fallen. Any thoughts on whether this is a common problem and is it easy to fix?

In fact, we from the older crowd often carry a tennis ball in our glove compartment which we can put on the engine lid lock.

When the lid does fall on your head, its somewhat less painfull [:D][:D][:D]

how much would a bit of DiY cost you .... ??

Ever noticed that even with perfectly working hydraulic engine lid stuts in this weather the hydraulics are not as effective as in 20 degrees celsius?

In case you havent, I have![;)]

Hence the tennisball:p

Thanks for all your help chaps. I will arm myself with a stick, tennis ball, new strut and the diy article and get it sorted. I will hold it open for 30 seconds first though just to check that some effort on my part is required!

Just replaced my bonnet struts (which were pretty hopeless, especially in cold weather). Only 15 quid each for the genuine OEM article. No brainer!
