Engine Management light!!

It wasn't a particularly damp day, the temperature was about 4C and it had only been standing for a day after a 130 mile trip. On start up, it sounded like it was firing on 4 then 5 then finally all 6 cylinders kicked in. However on this occasion, the CEL remained on once the car was up to temperature and after several re-starts.
Although there was no apparent effect on performance or fuel economy after another 130 mile trip, I thought it would be a good idea to get it over to the OPC as I was concerned about the cats so booked it in for a reset. I needed to use the car last Friday and as the light was still on after a short trip decided to call the OPC to fix a date. After sorting a day out with the service team, I started up and, blow me, the CEL had gone off and has so far stayed off. Weird.
I'm guessing that the engine management system must have taken a while longer than previously to decide that the fault had been cleared. Anyone else experienced this?
