Engine number is 5 out...

I recently got my certificate of authenticity and my engine number is 5 off what it should be I.e. The last number is a 2 instead of 7 on the certificate. I find it highly unlikely that this is a different engine given it's proximity to the original number but I do see how a badly stamped 2 could look like a 7.

Is a mistake at the factory you think? Can I claim a numbers matching car? Can I get it changed if so? Or is this a common occurrence and not a big deal? Your advice is appreciated.

C of A do contain errors: I guess that the Porsche GB systems have changed so many times it's inevitable. With your car, it will have gone from hand-typed notes in a dealer's filing cabinet, in to the first computer system, and re-entered every time the IT has been changed.

They will happily correct any errors, in my experience. [:)]

As its name suggests, Certificates of Authenticity must be correct, and identification numbers are either correct or incorrect.

A number cannot be "almost" correct, so get your certificate amended or replaced, although it may well take a little while.

Arfor.

Thanks for the help. I called porsche customer service, the checked the microfsh and confirmed the correct number and they will re-issue the certificate, great result.

A good result for you.
I think Porsche GB do not have all the details for our cars and seem to struggle with the information for many of the imported cars.
I have 4 incorrect versions of the Certificate before I got one that matched the info they sent me in a letter in 1992, which I had to pay for.
Fortunately, today the C of A is free to members.
