I use silkolene pro r race oil 15/40.Its one of the best and has more of the metal clinging agent/polymers than the magnatec and mobil.
Its also as cheap if you can get a account with Fuchs oils who supply silkolene by the 20ltr containers.
It pays off when the engine needs a rebuild as the components are in much better condition.

I also used this in a GT3, but couldn't get the OPC to confirm that it was Porsche authorised. I don't know why ---
Easy one, this ... Porsche approve no oils with a cold viscosity (the W rating) greater than 5 - this has been the case for some time now. They must have their reasons (they do an awful lot of testing) but I am not privy to them ... the millions of deluded but happy M1 Motorsport 15W-50 users do not seem to colour their judgement one jot !!
HTH, cheers, Maurice [8D]
Hi - I think this was referring to the usage of Silkolene Maurice, as it's not on the Porsche approved list (although it is on my approved list and in my car)

Either one fits the bill, Pete, they are both > 5W viscosity, one is not even synthetic !

True - I use the 5/40 Silkolene Pro S - Don't understand this obsession Indies seem to have with Magnatec

want it to last,10-50 sounds better for track
The 10 will not make any difference on a track, as that is the cold viscocity, so I would stick with a 5 weight.unless you live somewhere really cold [] as that will give you better cold start protection.
50 also sounds a bit thick - any specific reason for wanting something that thick
Current Porsche approved list is here :http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=230743 - no 50 W on there []
What is the temp / pressure like when you are on the track?
I think the main thing is to use a fully synthetic oil for the shear resistance and change it regularly if you are on the track a lot - 100 track miles approximates to 1000 road miles allegedly.
Pete
oil temp and pressure are fine no probs there, just a bit worried about the magnatec as it so cheap? when all mobil and castrol tws which i use to run on my m3 s were alot more expensive,5 - 40 it is so,thanks also what gearbox oil do you run ? i am running,saf-xj castrol ,limo works great with it but the noise of gear clashing is very noisy, porsche recomend something else but the limo is not supposed to work aswell..just what i was told?
