2012Ville prices [:D] .... OPC in Herts area is doing it for £12.40 but I saved them the trouble and supplied my own from Costco [;)]

My car is having a service soon, quoted similar prices. Needless to say I'll be taking my own Mobil 1 oil.

Bit the bullet and had my oil changed today at my OPC. I am not a Costco member so I had to settle for £9.80 per litre at Halfords.

It's the 1 hour OPC labor charge that got me though. Like they are actively working on the car for that whole hour!! At least I got my 10% PCGB discount and the other little parts like filter element etc only came to about £15.

Total for me (with Halfords oil) about £200.

So value for money was it Alex[]

I personally think 2 years or 20,000 miles is too long for a 1st oil change. So 200 quid is ok. The full 'minor service' is priced at 460 quid but that's mainly just various checks on top of the oil change. My car has been faultless from factory so I wasn't concerned with any of these extra checks.

Just went for a 2 hour countryside spin and the engine is definitely running smoother after the oil change.

I think I will repeat every year from now on.

cool - 2 years always did seem a long time to have the same oil

I always think mine goes better after a wash and polish! [:)] What's the oil consumption on yours, Alex. I'm getting through about 1L/1000 miles at present, so when I get to 8k or so it has had an oil change! But seriously, I've always been concerned by the 20k interval but am always told that Mobil 1 is more than up to it. Then there's the issue over the type of driving/how long it sits in the garage etc and the effect that has on the oil. I dunno, just seems a bit unnatural to leave it for 2 years so will probably do as you did!

I haven't been counting - my 997TT is much less oil consumption than my old 997C2S Cab though.

I think it's bragging rights and a sales pitch for manufacturers to say 'our cars don't need servicing more than every 20k miles or 2 years'. In the meantime the engine suffers by having old oil with lots of little metal flakes in it from the break in period.
