After buying my first Porsche Boxster in Sept 10, and blowing it up within 4 weeks of ownership, I have finallly dropped the engine out to find an exploded tappet/follower on No 1 cyl inlet. Not only doed the tappet require replacing(obviously) but also the lobe of the cam is damaged and also requires replacing. When the tappet exploded, debris managed to find its way to the timing chain and also jammed in the gap of the double sprocket which caused the timing to jump approx 90 deg on the exhaust cam and consequently bent all the exhaust valves.
I'm repairing the engine on a shoestring budget but don't want to cut corners on the amount of work required. Can anyone recommend suitable places to purchase discounted parts.
Also what are the thoughts on using OEM parts rather that Porsche Parts.
