Engine Question

someone with a bit more early 911 knowledge will be able to help better than I. But from the picture and i'm mostly guessing it's a 2.something MFI engine. The shroud colour should give a pointer, Red i think would specify "S" spec. It's mechanically injected which makes it pre 76. Would think engine number would help identify the base engine.

Thanks Laurence,I now have a no ...6220167...which I think makes it a 72 E engine...with a bit of red paint on!

Yes that engine number is for a 1972 2.4E engine. As you say with the wrong coloured shroud and painted fan.

Thanks Ian.
This little exercise pretty much shows how difficult it is to know what you are buying!
I have been looking for a 73 right hand drive Targa for some time, not easy as we know how few were made.
This car came up,Black,73 but registered 1st Jan 74.
It was apparantly from Jersey, originally yellow.
When I went to see it I could find no yellow but small tracies of Gemini blue.Engine lid was for a left hand drive car.Inside the door armrests were the wrong way round for a right hand drive car.
Lots of other things like new seats from an 80's car, aftermarket steering wheel ect ect...about £10,000 worth of bits to sort, not a problem if....big if...it really is what it says.
Porsche have identified the chassis as being the one from Jersey, but why all the left hand drive stuff?
The engine ,as we now know, was from a 72 car.
I think I'll keep looking!

If it has put you off then imagine trying to sell it later....

Do you know the chassis number?

Ian.
