Engine service

Good morning folks

Over the Easter weekend while I have some spare time I want to carry out a basic engine service to my 924S. I'm thinking an oil change, plugs, and oil and air filters. Can anyone recommend where and what parts to get, and also if there is anything else worth doing bearing in mind the car hasnt been serviced in god knows how long...

Many thanks,

Chris

If you still have the manual it does list the schedule for all jobs to do on every service. Some of them are a bit poxy but it is a good guide.

Oil & filter
Plugs
Air filter
Fuel filter

As it has been so long I would also think about doing gearbox oil, coolant and brake fluid as well.

Everything you need should be available from your local motor factors at varying price and quality levels. Its always giving your nearest OPC a ring as well for a price. They can surprise you sometimes.

When were the belts done? 4 years/40K miles absolute maximum or I'd not turn the key.

They are sensitive to ignition system so check dis cap/rotor arm and leads. I'd check coolant concentration and brake/clutch fluid as well. Check fuel and brake lines for corrosion.

When I called my local OPC they wanted around £60 for every service item bar the plugs or the £72 with the Plugs. PCT beat them being £52 for a mixture of Mahle Knecht items and OPC bits including plugs.

Regarding Ignition bits I would go for either genuine or OE spec bits (I.e get them from a specialist and not a motor factor). Cheap ignition bits can open you up to a world of pain on any car in addition to having you chasing your tail for a long time when the 'new' bit was the problem all along (I have many examples of this).

Frazerpart are a recognised and reputable Porsche parts supplier so you can't go far wrong with anything bought from them [:)]
