Engine special tools

Hi all, I have just bought a 1999 Carrera 4 with a knackered engine. The crank has gone on the car with 2 mains and a big end being scrap so requires a crank. I have managed to get one from Porschapart along with a later style IMS with the Hyvo chain. I am wondering if anyone has any of the special tools I could borrow or hire as I am going to rebuild the engine myself and there are special tools needed for installing the pistons and also doing the cam timing.

couple of complete engine rebuild posts with pics over on Rentech.
I would recommend you start there.

Good luck and keep us updated with pics.

Do you know if it was actually IMS Bearing failure or was it a multitude of failures?.
And were there any signs or just pop.

The IMS was fine, just the crank is 9 thou out and banana'd. Proably just buy the tools from the US.

Strange fruit eh,

If its the tool to pull an IMSB I doubt anyone here would have it.

Like you have requested better the right tools for the job makes life so much easier.

Regards

Alasdair,
good luck with the rebuild, cant help you with the special tools, but how did the engine get to this point, oil? dropped valve? 6th to 3rd mis-shift? miles?
big task to put a TT in it with narrow body side vents for IC's? and 2wd

Funny that because I believe that a lot of cranks were out from new causing excessive bearing wear and leaks.
And potentiality BANG!.
