I had this before on my Targa SC many years ago but have forgotten what the problems was.

When checking the oil on my mate 3.2 Carrera and removing the oil cap the engine stops. Can anyone help?

Graham

try squeezing the two larger breather pipes that run from the main oil tank round behind the filter, if the engine keeps running then there is a restricor missing from the one that makes the dfference. Some bright spark had filled my breathers with some sort of silicone rather than spending the 5 quid on the correct solution!!!

cheers

Hi Alex.

I will try that tonight if I get a chance. I hope it is something simple like that!

Hi Alex

I tried squeezing the two pipes together it it carrys on running. So how many restricor should there be and where?
It use to be ok. The engine was removed for a gearbox issue, so could it be something not connected?

Thanks

Graham

yup - thats the one shrish, gsimons_tel I only have the one as per the diagram - i think it was the main case breather it went in in the end...it only fitted in one of them properly...

cheers

I replaced both of those pipes and had the same problem, luckily managed to find my old perished pipes in the garage bin [:'(]and found restrictor inside one of them. I never throw anything away now[:D]

I do the same. Keep anything that might be useful for me or a friend!

How easy is it to take the pipe off to put the restrictor inside? Is it from the Oil tanks end?

Thanks

Graham

I spoke to Jonas at JZM and this is what he told me

Ok, that is easy, just take of the top hoes that goes in to the oil filler neck, one jubilee clip, and push the valve in the hose so the pointed parts faces you and then fit the hose. The restricor is facing you/filler neck, just enough to fit the hose again

Will be trying it tonight as the weather is good. It's a cheap part too. just under £9 with Vat after PCGB Discount.

I fitted the restrictor tonight. It only took me 10 mins from start to finish and it does the job! Now the oil can be checked whilst the engine is running[:)]
