Just got Boxster S (2003) out of garage to wash and there is a ticking noise coming from the engine, can anyone let me know if they have experienced this and what was it? been on the web and getting all sorts of reasons from Engine IMS failure/variocam solenoid failure to lifter sticking, can I drive the car to have it inspected? any ideas or advice would be greatful,

Fingers crossed David

Hi thanks for the reply, it seems to be coming from the passenger side and almost sounds like an electrical arc, could it be a spark plug coil pack? and does it go away after driving for some miles?

doesn't go away on mine, spark plus are near the bottom of the car i believe, if you are that concerned take it to the garage, or you can get into the engine bay by moving the seats fully forward, or form the normal access form where the roof goes into

Hi, good news, ran car today on idle upto operating temperature and guess what, ticking started to be intermittent and now completely gone. Suspect sticking lifter, but will still get checked out.

Fingers crossed does work sometimes.
