Engine Tin Ware

993 C4

PCGB Member
Chaps,

Just having a 'top end' carried out on the C2 and now the engine is out, some new tin ware is required !
Any pointers as to the best place to sorce this from would be much appreciated.

Nick.

HI,

Your best place is OPC but your need to open the wallet as tin ware is not cheap or a few new tin bits do pop up on Ebay sometimes.
Yes there are a few pattern Tin parts around but having tried these they do not fit with the same quality and I reversed them out and went OPC and did the job probably.

You also might want to get the new ones painted as Porsche tin ware paint is like tissue paper and falls off as you look a it!!

So until someone make Stainless tin ware for a 964 we have to pay the going rate @ OPC for mild steel ;-)

Heck.......Does anyone supply after market alternatives ?

FVD do some of them but as Ian rightly says they're not as good as originals and not that much cheaper. If you buy originals get them powder coated to help extend their life a little.

Replaced mine last year and yes your looking at £1000 for the Porsche ones.
Do get them plated/painted though as the finish is terrible for what you pay.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the engine have to be out to replace the tinware?

How easy it it to inspect insitu?

What are the implications of rusty tinware?

I think the tin can be done with removal of just the exhaust system. Rusty tin means some cylinders (usually at the gearbox end) dont get cooled as they should and therefore run hot with the resultant ware issues.

ORIGINAL: bert gear

Dansk do some of the panels, good quality and cheaper you can see them on my website

Actually old chap, Dansk only do 2 tinware pieces for the 964, front left (which is cheaper from OPC) and the rear section which they have no stock of!

Thank you all for your advice. I'm shortly removing the complete set of tins and on closer inspection today, several of the pieces will in fact take a blast in readyness for powder coating. I will also coat the new items when sourced, the same way.
I just need to clarify exactly what bits to replace !

Thanks again peeps.

Nick.

Every one appears to notice the poor quality coating. I've always wondered about the quality of metal, cus they rust like mad [&:]
