how do :) , has anyone got any pics of a 44 engine seperated from the clutch bell housing? or know where i can get a template of the housing? what engines other than the standard have been mated up with standard trans ?
cheers

hmmm sort of :) cheers . think its going to have to be a hands on take it to bits and see whats what .

been collecting parts to turbo my 25 n/a 944 but with all the fab work involved to get what i want (inlet and exhaust manifolds etc) ive decided i may aswell have a shot at mating a sierra cos engine to it . sorted a scrap cos bottom end now so just need to sort out an adapter plate . need a template of the porsche bell housing so i can get something drawn up .

????????????[&:] I mean, std Cossie 204 ponies, 8 short of the 212 3.0 S2 normally aspirated, 16 shy of a 220 turbo and 66 shy of the 250. I am struggling to understand both the economy of finance and effort.

200 standard ;) ive already got the parts to get 350 out of a sierra cos engine (which i was going to use to turbo the 2.5 porsche motor) and if i decided for more in time and had the cash spare double that is tried and tested. whats been had out of a 2.5 T 944? cant find much on any development/tuning either diy or 'pro' :( . due to the low demand (and the badge) the few upgrades i have seen have been silly money ! .
what sort of power will a decent 44T transmission take? what are the options when you hit the limit? or step over it lol

I believe that Paul Smith of LIL fame is currently putting 318 bhp through his turbo gearbox (according to the rollers of truth) from his 3.2 turbo conversion. Somewhere on ebay there is a 944 for sale at the moment that has had a 3.5 rover conversion offering.... wait for it........160 bhp so it has been improved worse by three.

lol at the rover effort [:'(] . with porsche most people dont want to risk trying things out so doesnt seem much has been done :( . seen diver944 (is it?) 's project but thats alot of work and money for that power! . picking up a scrap cos block tomorrow so just need an old 944 bellhousing and i can see whats what . if a rover 3.5 can be grafted to one cant see a jumped up pinto causing too much greif .... i hope. anyone on here had any experience of fitting engines to boxes that werent meant to be?

cheers

The Cosworth block is renowned for being extremely strong and very very tuneable with a very large market of tried and tested solutions. You only have to spend a bit of time chatting to Rick to realise just how much is out there. The benefits of a more mass market car than ours will always make things much cheaper, I imagine it's a pretty light engine too, but don't know for sure.

My own effort made 350bhp 450lbft on the rollers of truth when it was still on the original AFM at 16psi. Now that it's at 18psi on a properly mapped MAF I would hope it's more, but we'll have to wait until I sort out the next Dyno Day to see [;)]

thats the thing , most people buy a porsche to polish , keep mint and enjoy as it was intended (which is all well and good ) so tuning parts like you say arent in demand. have you had your block linered? that was my only concern with making big power out of the std bottom end but asking about i found they arent cheap ! :( hence the cos idea .

are you on std transmission ? rebuilt in anyway or as it left the factory? i know mines a bit sloppy so wont go mad till i get it freshened up or uprated

You're getting into dangerous stereotype ground now :ROFLMAO: I think you'll find few 944s in mint, undriven condition, they are too much fun [:)]

Yes my engine has had the cylinders machined away and then sleeved back down to 3.2 litres to provide an immensely strong and braced block that can supposedly cope with 2 bar of boost []. I thought I had a thread on here with all the pics but I can't find it [:(] so see all the details on Rennlist at:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=319420 you have to be logged in to see the pics

My gearbox is totally standard and will hopefully stay that way as I have no plans to go crazy with the power (it's crazy enough already [;)]), it's mated to the Porsche turbo cup clutch which is very light and smooth in action but just a bit stronger than standard

porsche got the crank and rods right just a shame they didnt do the same with the bores . surely you could run more than 2 bar !? (providing everything was set to match) sure on the lindsey racing site they say they put 20 psi through a standard unlinered bottom end? might be wrong but cant be arsed to go through it all at the min.

been suggested that modifying the shell to take a cos rear diff and ditching all the porsche stuff might be a better way to go (lots of cheaper options for uprating and replacement parts then) mailed a few people that specialise in that sort of thing to see how much it'll lighten my wallet by , just have to wait and see what they say.
