Engine transplant

The best is the type 4 unit from Camper vans there is a web site about in the US where a guy fitted a super bug engine in his car. I think you might have to ask on Pelican to get the US guys web address. the type 4 unit is easyer I think cos they made 912E's which were /are Porsche modded type 4 's ..
the max you can go in a type 4 is ...............2.7ltr [8D]

You can got 2.9!

It would be cheaper to go with a Type 1 though if you're looking for serious bhp - depends on what you're looking for and usage.

Speak to somebody like John Maher or Stateside Tuning as a starting point. Both very knowledgeable on both Type 1 and 4.

The maestro's book "secrets of the Inner Circle" has a section on chosing the right VW engine and what is required to fit it, I can lend it to you if you wish, give me a call.

Are you planing on rebuilding the 12 engine?

Ive heard 3 litre plus out of a type4.......but a couple of hundred cc's makes no odds can you imagine what it would drive like[:)]

Im not looking at the moment, but would love to spend money on a big type1 or type4 motor for the '12. Everyone i speak to says that I should keep the engine relitively stock or ill regret it....and after two cars with big HP type1 engines I kinda miss the power.

I was only after info on fitting them and how much work it takes.....mounts ( engine and box) plus things like throttle linkage etc etc

I would you say spend the cash on the 12 engine, although you may not get as much power (125-130 bhp is easy t get), it would fit the rest of the car.

I might change my mind when you give a passenger ride with a 3.0 L type 4[8D]

Let me know if you want the book, I will drop it round.
