Engine whistle

I've noticed an engine whistle developing for some time on my 997s. No loss of performance just wondered if I shud get it checked under warranty? It's almost like the whistle a turbo would make. Has gotten progressively louder. Pal at the weekend said I shud get it checked. Any thoughts/experiences?

some suggestion from OPC that its probably fan belt rather than anything too sinister. Im assuming that this wont be covered under warranty. 1hrs labour they say

I had a polybelt replaced under warranty... it had split though...
David, Check the fixed menu servicing, it used to be a fixed cost of about £70

tks gary ill have a look. car was only serviced in november and the whistle"s been happening for probably 12months but its never bothered me. Warranty runs out in june so i thought id get it sorted.

I cant actually see it on the fixed price menu Gary although OPC colchester said its no more than an hours labour for a new belt. Hey Ho, ill let u know the outcome

David
It is on the service schedule list, the list is available to download amongst other places from the 997 googlegroups main page [;)]
Drive belt 6 years or 60,000miles £57 although I notice in the small print it says only in conjunction with a service...

I didnt think that was the same thing but makes sense many tks

There's no such thing as a fan belt on a 996/997, the only belt I know of is the polyrib which drives the ancillaries (air con, alternator, water pump, power steering etc), when that comes slightly adrift of it's pulley it can make a screeching sound. Get it seen to sooner rather than later or you could find your car quickly overheating if it snaps.

its more of a whistling noise like there is air involved somewhere rather than a screeching. service guy said release of air wud activate a warning sign on the dash but ive not got one. ive actually had it for probably close to a year.
