Hi, I have recently had to gain access to my battery as I hadn't started my vehicle for a couple months as I had been away and the battery was completely flat. I managed to gain access to the bonnet via the fuse box in the drivers footwell, made a couple connections and click the bonnet was open. I gave the battery enough charge that allowed me to start it and give it a run down the road for a short distance. After this I then parked the car back into my garage where I placed the battery on charge for the next few days. I went to start the car today and despite there being significant charge in the battery the dash was displaying - PSN & ABS failure! Oh and the spoiler at the rear was out of postition and the lights were flashing on/off! There's enough charge in the vehicle but unfortunately it's not starting it's just sounding like - click click! I am guessing that this is something to do with the electronics? I have had a problem with the elctronics before when water got into the vents and totally froze the car. Please tell me that I don't have to take the vehicle to a specialised dealer or even to Porsche themselves to fix the problem? Your comment, thoughts and advise would be fully appreciated. Cheers Jules

The PSN & ABS failure alarm is nothing to worry about. They will reset once you have driven a few hundred yards down the road after you have fitted a new battery.

Grab a good Bosch battery but be ready for OPC to add a note in your service receipt that it is a non standard battery after every service [:(]

Also get a battery conditioner if you don't use the car regularly.

ATB.

Others may disagree... But this looks like a battery problem to me!

Can't stress Kish's Battery Conditioner (not charger!) comment enough.

exactly what happened to mine....weird the spoiler is the last thing a dying porsche deploys! your battery has had it. i read on here that when you replace it if you drive really slowly, 3-5mph after replacing, the lights reset....they did on mine. remember if you are under warranty you might have to get a porsche battery. whatever you do get yourself one of thos cigarette lighter chargers, works a treat.

You DO NOT have to get a Porsche battery under Porsche extended warranty; I just renewed mine and I have a Bosch battery which is superior to the Moll Porsche battery. Battery is not covered under warranty but best to check with mechnical experts to see if by some chance a warranty item can be traced back to a fault created by a non-Porsche battery as then I guess they can void your warranty claim...

Also check the battery terminals - if they are slightly loose or have some corrosion between the terminals this will cause the same problem.

Thank you to everybody for your prompt replies and advice except I have a real problem now! I had left the bonnet a jar last weekend with a view to changing the battery over today after all your advice. When I went to my garage this afternoon the bonnet had somehow shut! NIGHTMARE! I have tried to open the bonnet again via the fuse box in the footwell but have had no luck whatsoever. I need to get the battery out so I can replace it. Please can anyone advise and also does anyone know of a specialist Porsche garage within the Watford area? As this is probably the route I will now have to take unless one of you guys and girls can come up with an answer. Once again thanks to you all. Cheers Jules.

This was my initial problem:

The PET shows the emergency cable release, the same as the 986 had. You will need to remove the wheel arch liner and fiddle around near the back of the headlight to find the cable and give it a tug. It shows on the passenger side - item 22:
