ENTERING INTO 993 OWNERSHIP

Hi all,

I've found a 993 that im prepared to buy, I've always had 944s2's but it's time to finally own a 993 having just sold my cabriolet.
Any advice on what to look for would be great - and asap as im due to go and look at it tomorrow and agree a deal.

A bit about the car,

It's a 1993 (L registration) L941 VCE
Its Adventura Grey/green with grey leather
tiptronic
current owner bought the car from Porsche Cambridge when it was 18 months old.
123000 miles with full Porsche main dealer and Porsche specialist service history.
I've been told it's been well maintained regardless of cost.

Would this be a good buy and is this a desirable colour? it was apparently the launch colour. I like it so I guess that's all that matters.

I've never been to look at one before so any help would be great.

all relative but being non varioram and tiptronic and high mileage arguably all count against it though none of them that seriously but long ownership and proper maintenance in its favour assuming its all properly documented, not sure about the colour. with that mileage i would get an inspection at an OPC or a good independent before buying. there are various buying guides online and possibly on the forum. good luck
 
You don't mention the price- or I missed it!!
but this should be towards the bottom of the price hierarchy I would guess
you don't want to be paying over the odds and you definitely need an inspection!!

the agreed price is £30,000
I assumed that's a fair price considering its low ownership. I think an inspection would be a good idea, thanks for the advice so far.
 
A PPI is a must prior to purchase, any faults found will increase your bargaining powers, either price or seller get done![;)]

I've done a few background checks on it and It appears it was scrapped in 1995. the seller is completely unaware of this and is looking into it, dvla have no record of it being scrapped but Experian do.
very strange.
Until we've got to the bottom of it, I'm holding off.
I'm still very interested but obviously need to know there's nothing untoward with it's history

Sorry but pre-varioram, tip and high mileage mean nothing. If the market perceives these items to be a negative then the price will reflect this and you will pay accordingly. People will say, you will loose money when you sell it, no you wont, it will be relative to your purchase price, as long as you paid market value when you bought it, all should be ok.

Theres far more important things than if its pre-varioram or if its a tip so dont let, not being the market trend affect your purchase as its going to be your car. Condition, and a measurable history is far more important, which I can see, you yourself, have just proven by doing the relevant checks.

As others have stated a PPI would be a good choice. Rust around the bottom of the front and rear screens under the rubbers is typical of these cars, A/C if present, is worth checking as that can be a money pit, suspension requires an investigation as these cars can drive nicely with softening suspension and still feel competent, however you dont know how soft it is until you get it refreshed, then you notice instantly the diffrence. Its worth checking the DME relay has been changed from factory as there have been a few failures reported, however this is a cheap fix. The side mounting arms that the rear bumper is fixed to are known to totally disintegrate due to rust. If you push the rear bumber along the side behind the wheel, they shouldnt flex inwards, if they do, they've gone. Clutches are worth a check also but all these should be picked up in a PPI plus a lot more.

I believe Maurice has written a buyers guide, so that should be on the forum somewhere and he will point out far more relevant things to keep an eye out on.

Aventura Green didnt use to be popular, however from discussions on other forums, it has become popular. A lot of people are put off by the reference to green without even seeing it But Aventura, light dependant shifts between a highly metalic very dark green to grey, to black. Its quite an unusual effect.

My point was, with the information above, either Porsche sold it as a Cat c/d or the current owner managed to get it to a Cat c/d and forgot about it.

Probably just a cock up on the computer at HPI
 
HPI had my 3 year old Touareg as showing 257,000 miles, so needless to say potential new owner baulked. Phoned the company concerned, e mailed the service history and it was sorted same day. Lady on phone told me it happens a lot, not that that's any consolation.
