ESS rear box fitting

Hi,

I fitted my new shiny ESS rear box to my turbo on Saturday. (The tail pipe was about to fall of the original). The ESS rear box section does not have a mounting point at the front like the standard system (under the centre of the car near the propshaft). Has anyone who has this part felt the need to add a mounting? It appears to be sturdy enough at the moment.

Kind Regards

Doug

I've had my ESS box fitted for some time now and its been fine. I do find I get a little bit of a knocking noise only when the engine is cold and only when driving round mini-roundabouts where the back-box seems to knock against the side of the pocket behind the rear wheel arch, but the backbox is a bit of a squeeze with not much clearance. It doesn't happen when the engine is warm or on large roundabouts or left hand bends, and in anycase it's not particularly loud so only noticeable when you are listening out for it. So everything appears to be fine and i'm very pleased with the product.

My Dansk back box doesn't use the mounting point at the front either, it just bolts up to the midpipe and has two bolts at the exhaust tip.

It was literally half the weight of the OEM one though [8D]

Hello I have just taken my first look at the forum for over a year and never been on the 944 section before but now I have one, or at least most of one I feel I can rightly join in from time to time. The ESS rear silencer doesnt have the front mount, we have been selling them like this for 2.5 years now and they work fine without it.

The reason we designed them like this is that other systems dont have the bracket but more importantly it allows us to swap between two different mounting flanges which means the same silencer works for both the 3 bolt 944S2 pipe and 4 bolt 944 turbo we just supply different fitting kits depending on which car it is for. I hope this is useful. Any questions give me a call on 01442 258536.

Hi Simon,
It's good to see you here. Sorry for the OT question but how's your 944 project coming along? Any track days planned soon? I'm looking forward to seeing it in action! [:D]
Best regards,
Peter.
