UK 928 EURO 2007 - Questionnaire

As most of you will be aware it is proposed to hold a 928 Euro in the UK in September 2007 celebrating the 928's 30th anniversary. This is a first for 928 owners here in the UK and it is being backed by the full might of the Porsche Club of Great Britain and support from Porsche Cars GB. It is open to all 928 owners, both PCGB members and non-members as long as the own a 928.

There has been a lot of speculation on the subject, below are THE FACTS AND PROPOSED COSTS as they currently stand:

NOTE: All aspects are optional â?" you choose what you want to enjoy!
Dates: Thursday 6th September to Sunday 9th September 2007

Itinerary:
Thursday 6th (pm) visit = to BMW Mini Factory
Friday 7th (am) PCGB 928 Track Day at Castle Coombe
(pm) visit to Porsche Cars GB with buffet dinner
Saturday 8th (am) visit to RBS Williams F1 (with technical session)
(pm) Cotswold countryside rally & 928 count
(pm) Gala Dinner with guest speaker
Sunday 9th (am) 928 Anniversary Celebration at PCGB National Event at Ragley Hall (Nr Birmingham)

Activity Costs per person:
(*) implies conservative estimate - to be confirmed
BMW Mini Visit £20 *
Track Day £140 *
Porsche Cars GB £Free
Williams F1 £61
Countryside Rally £Free
Gala Dinner £36
(included in hotel cost for those staying at Oxford Spires Four Pillars)
Ragley Hall £Free for 928 cars only

Hotel Costs:
Typical cost of twin/double room for shared occupancy, including breakfast, parking, 4 course Gala Dinner and VAT. Any additional items that agreed to be included may change the rate we have already negotiated at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel.

1 night £198.00
2 nights £321.90
3 nights £441.90

The event is largely set in the Oxford area based at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel within walking distance of the centre of Oxford. It is the recommended hotel and where the Gala Dinner will be held. It has among the largest number of rooms within Oxford City and adequate grounds/parking for the event. On Friday and Saturday we have booked the entire hotel in advance at less than 2006 rates all inclusive of Gala Dinner.

The entire event will be available on a menu basis for people to pick and choose which activities they wish to attend. Special room rates at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel have been negotiated, inclusive of a full English breakfast, parking and the Saturday evening 4 course Gala dinner as a package, whether staying 1, 2 or 3 nights.

A list of alternative (Travelodge / B&B) accommodation will be provided. A sample of available B&Bâ?Ts or cheaper hotels will yield a marginal price difference when factoring in breakfast, taxi fares to/from Gala dinner, centre of Oxford etc. The hotel can accommodate a maximum of 140 rooms, 130 of which are twin share/double arrangement. The hotel can cater for up to 350 dinner guests.

For this event to be a success, it is essential to gauge opinion from 928 owners. Although we have received a small number of positive commitments from a silent minority, we want to get as many as possible to say if they will participate. Therefore, please indicate a simple "0", â?o1â?, â?o2â?, or "3" with either â?ohâ? or â?oeâ?, indicating that:

0 = not interested, will not be attending (only indicate 0 if you object to the event and would not attend regardless of reason)
1h = yes will be staying one night at the hotel
2h = yes will be staying two nights at the hotel
3h = yes will be staying three nights at the hotel
1e = yes will be staying one night elsewhere
2e = yes will be staying two nights elsewhere
3e = yes will be staying three nights elsewhere

We will publish results in a week or twoâ?Ts time for everyone to see (without listing names â?" but simple numbers). We are also publishing this with major 928 owner groups in Europe, USA and Australia in case anyone is interested.

As for many of the comments on various 928 forums, a tight but small committee has been formed to oversee the planning in complete agreement with the board of PCGB. As soon as the final arrangements are in place, including the participation of Porsche Cars GB is clarified, we will distribute the application forms, as well as publish all confirmed prices etc.

Lastly, we have plenty of support needed and as soon as it is practical to involve people, you will hear the call to arms. I personally do not want to raise false hopes or waste anyoneâ?Ts time on a wild goose chase unless all the official stuff is finished.

Please email me a short message with answer in the SUBJECT. Any comments can be placed in text of message.

Kind regards,

Clyde Lennon
On behalf of event organisers

And from David Hemmings:

Euro 928 Sept 2007
If you own a 928 then this 30th Anniversary is THE event intended for you, 911â?Ts are sidelined. It may well be that your car is used as a first car, or a second, or even a third car, so it is impossible to suit everyone, but that is still the main aim. The emphasis is simply on something to suit all tastes and all pockets.

Remember when you first bought into your Porsche? You bought into the name and just as important, the standard. Now we can confirm we have the full support of Porsche Club Great Britain and Porsche Cars Great Britain. If we have done our bit is it too much to ask for mutual support?

If there is anything we share and enjoy most in our spare time it is our mutual enthusiasm for the cars and a good day out, so from the man who wrote â?~the bookâ?T can I suggest that you do your level best to attend and be part of a little piece of history - then I can continue to write about it too!

The finishing touches are now well in hand so look out for the Booking Form in February 2007 Porsche Post and at the same time on the websites of www.porscheclubgb.com and www.928.org.com

I do hope this posting will settle the matter for the doubters, we welcome you on board, but without you there really will be no event and we will all be the losers.

David Hemmings 928 Register Secretary Porsche Club Great Britain.

Kind regards

Clyde Lennon

Hi All :)

I have just spoken to David Hemmings
(PCGB 928 Register Secretary and co organiser of 928 Euro 2007)

We have spoken at length about the event for 928s...

There have been some suggestions that the itenary could be added to, to make the event more 928 minded...

Soooo...ideas for some technical talks on 928s would be appreciated...

So far we have as suggestions...

Adrian Clarke with a talk on Supercharging the 928...

Me with a talk on Nitrous for the 928...

Me again with a talk on Top Fuel drag racing....

Any other suggestions please ????

What I will do is give this a couple of weeks for any suggestions....then run a Poll here for people to choose which if any of the suggestions they would like to see and hear :)

Or if anyone has anything else they would like to do or see over those couple of days....or any other comments ...please feel free to post them here...

All the best Brett :)

Hi All

Having been involved with the Club for many years, and arranged several events, it has always been impossible to satisfy all the people all the time.

The purpose of a special (IMO) event is that to enjoy it and get the most out of it, is to be at the heart of the action. To arrange to be at an alternative hotel, or to miss out part of the event, will not only spoil your own enjoyment but will also dilute the event.

Come on support the organisers and your fellow Members and 928 followers and have a great time. You never know it may never happen again!

Have fun

Paul Kelley
