European Breakdown Cover

Not sure if am posting this in quite the right place. But, anyway, in last 3 years had a policy with the AA for my European trips that was separate from my insurance and normal breakdown cover. Anyway, preparing for next trip (3 weeks on road in mainland Europe) and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. Many thanks.

Ooo, ooo, ooo - look - that's a thread of mine that's been quoted! [:)]

Further to that thread, I did indeed purchase cover with ADAC who were the best bet (by some margin, I'll add). I never claimed on it as the old girl was as reliable as a Swiss Watch (or possibly 'as reliable as an old German car') so I can't comment on how good their service was but they were always helpful on the 'phone, and you got a quarterly motoring magazine in the post. (Which, incidentally, was in German. Which is a very cool thing to casually leave lying around the house but unfortunately I couldn't read it, which was a shame as the articles looked interesting!)

Since then however I have started buying insurance from the club insurance provider, who provide free European breakdown cover as part of the policy, so have cancelled with ADAC. This is the cheapest option if you drive abroad regularly.

Oli.

Same applies to Classicline - full european breakdown cover including recovery of car and people, included with the policy!

I currently have three Swiss watches which are broken (Oris BC3, TAG Heuer 2000 auto and Tissot PR100 auto).

+1 for ClassicLine.......and very competitive overall premium. I paid £190 this year, 5k miles, only car, ungaraged.

Have to say that my Longines has been totally reliable for the last 20 years, and keeps excellent time too. It does have quite an appetite for batteries though.

A Seiko5 makes a much better everyday watch, despite being thicker and heavier.

Many thanks, for all your advice. I am also insured through Locktons which contains Euro cover - So, will look into how complete it is before considering other options. But, my understanding is it doesn't cover recover from European motorways. Anyway, again thanks.

We are with Lockton Insurance too and use their inclusive Euro cover for our trips abroad. I would be interested in what you find out.

From what I historically understand is that in France the police recover motorway breakdowns to a local garage, other countries I don't know, but expected Lockton to have it all covered. I'll be disappointed if their cover isn't comprehensive.

Steve

Will contact them to clarify the policy as also in an all the documentation I have I don't have any detail on how to actually use it when I am stuck (numbers etc.) - Having said that I do probably 3 big trips a year (in excess of 3,500 miles generally) plus go and forth to Stockholm at least twice a year and never once had a problem.

But a bad run of luck with car in the space of a few weeks in the Uk before Christmas has made me consider my cover a bit more (fuel pump regulator left me by side of M42 then the head gasket went and then two weeks later the radiator).
