European Recovery

Hi,
I recall reading on the Forum that it is cheaper to join the German AA, known as the ADAC, for European touring cover on the grounds that it is less costly by a significant margin, for twelve months and member based and not car specific. The ADAC web site, English text version, suggests that the cover is comprehensive and includes recovery to members' home addresses. Because the contract detail is in German only it is difficult to know whether recovery to the UK is included. The English text states European wide recovery by which it may mean continental Europe only. Has anyone experience of ADAC in this regard?
Ever hopeful

They also don't charge extra for cars over ten years old - which most UK companies do.

Sounds like you have reached about same point as me in the investigation at the point I ran out of time and paid the same amount for 2 weeks as ADAC would have charged for an entire year! I did sit with their German T&Cs PDF pasting paragraphs into Google-translate[8|] for a while - and it does seem to be the case that the recovery is to anywhere in Europe that they have accepted as the member's home address.

But, like you say, it would be good to hear from someone who has actually tested it with an actual recovery!

Next time I want to use them...

Just renewed mine - €79

Not tried the recovery part, but did call them out a couple of years ago to a flat battery - AA man arrived without any problems and sorted me out

Spoke to them on the phone before I joined - no problem with "old timer" cars or recovery to your UK home address - the Germans think the UK is part of Europe [;)]

They are also the only people who will recover you from the Nurburgring I think

I used them when I lived in Germany for recovery from Belgium via the Netherlands - I think the only problem with trans continental recovery is that they work via reciprocal arrangements with other Motoring organisations and you get "relayed" at the borders of each country to the next country

Yep joined to them myself, they cover you home and europe.
Also recover you from breakdown/accident on the Ring.
I have not had to use the myself, but many I know have and have said that its a much better service than the AA/RAC even at home, funny that, when the switchboard sends out the AA or a local recovery quicker than if you phoned them direct[8|].
You can put your credit card details on the paperwork when it comes through.
Well worth it I reckon.

Sorry to break bad news, but ADAC is shocking and the 'cover' for 'home' is right next door to useless. I had a breakdown last year about seventy miles from home. After calling ADAC they sent the AA, but only after I had agreed to pay £150 or thereabouts because they only cover recovery to the value of 200 Euros and my recovery was going to cost more! The AA bloke couldn't understand this either and went out of his way to try and find a way around the problem, but all to no avail. Then, to cap the lot, I got a letter three months later in German, asking for the money that I had already paid!

Simply, it doesn't cover you in the way you think and I only found out the expensive way. I'm now a fully paid up member of the AA.

Did you have ADAC Plus?
Many on a well known Nurburgring forum, have used them in Germany and at Home and are very happy with the service, none having ever experienced chargable extras.

Thanks to all. Your comments have been very helpful. Subsequent to my Forum message and your comments I sent an e-mail to ADAC Germany and they helpfully replied to advise UK home address is acceptable. The message was in German, as expected, so I used Google translate to provide an instantaneous translation. The grammar was German but otherwise intelligible. I have sent my application and hope for a reply soon.
Thanks again.

Hi

Spoke to them yesterday, regarding recovery and they confirmed a UK address was fine, and that I would be recovered without extra charge to me back to the UK from the rest of Europe

This is with ADAC Plus
