Events confirmation

Hi,

I think I will stick my neck out and make a comment. It is clear that the region has, when we can get together, a group of enthusiastic members. However there does appear to be apathy on some of the meets which can only be frustrating for anyone organising them. I would say though that communication or lack of it in my opinion does appear to be an issue surrounding some of the back ground issues.

Can you confirm Ian what meets are still on this year and update the members please. I think a regular email would not go a miss or regular commuication via this forum. I am still interested in the Christmas meet but need to make my annual leave arrangments now.

I understand that people are willing to help arrange events which can only be a good thing.

While I appreciate we are all busy people and cannot get to all the in stone meets there may be some ad hoc gatherings we can arrange. I just think we need an injection of creativity and a review of a monthly primary meeting place that is more central to enable more members to actually get their P&J's out of the garage and onto the roads!!!!

Considering the present climate and all the discussion about the warranty price change etc surely having a close relationship with our OPC is essential. I would assume that they would be willing for this to take place now as long as feedback is given and we do our utmost to attend those events.

Just my 2 penneth. Appreciate all comments.

Regards Alan.

Shame to see this situation.. Especially considering that you guys have an area of outstanding beauty and some of the best driving roads within the UK[:)] As a register we have visited the area twice in the last 12 months, sadly no one from the region bothered to join us (even for a beer- and we are sociable you know[;)]) I do read whats going on as I'm always up for an impromptu drive around the area.. I sincerely hope you get things sorted, and certainly worth raising these points prior to the workers conference next month.. garyw

i have spoken to the opc twice in the past 6 weeks, and they are keen to work with the club. the sales manager advised he was going to contact our regional organiser to invite the club to an open day. no further news on this to date

Hi Crwys. This is a very old problem, over 30 years to my knowledge. First I must say we have not fallen out with our OPC. Both Ian and I have been in touch with them. I received a very warm welcome. We must understand that the OPC is under great pressure with car sales down so much. To ask their staff to work late just for us to sit around and have a chat is not reasonable. They receive several copies of PP and know of all our events, Regional and National, and are most welcome to join in if they wish or have time. Next I would say Cardiff is not central! If anyone is enthusiastic about Club events then they have to travel - I always think the more miles you can do in a Porsche the better (except my tractor). I feel that Ian and Julie have worked very hard over the past years to create events and have been let down badly. If you are not on Ian's e-mail list then please contact him with your membership number - r14@porscheclubgb.com Lets see a good turnout for the Gower Run. If you do have a get together for a beer and chat about future events please let me know and I will attend. Regards, Terry Davison

Not sure why the Forum shows me as a non member - Sally and I have been a member for 32 years. Terry Davison

Terry You need to inform the forum admin/office staff of your membership number and they then update the forum for you.. sometimes its actually quicker to post on the end of the link below asking the question.. Hi everyone, May I add a few comments? Firstly I'd like to thank Alan for raising this discussion, which is clearly one of importance to region members, and also to Ian and Julie who I agree do an commendable job in organising events which I have always found varied, interesting and enjoyable. It must indeed be a thankless task, when attendance at events can be so variable. During my relatively short membership my impression is that there is certainly a sizeable group of enthusiastic members who support the events, but possibly more who would turn up to the events and to the monthly meetings if the location was more suitable; Peterstone Court is a superb venue in most respects, and I do attend these meetings fairly often, partly I will admit, as it is only a short drive from where I live; they have not in my (limited) experience been particularly well supported sadly, and on several occasions I have met new members whom I have never seen again - I wonder whether perhaps these meetings give them the mistaken impression that we are not particularly enthusiastic! But I agree with Terry that one has to be willing to travel if we are to have regular meetings - how far is a personal choice according to one's circumstances and other commitments as Pete points out. The meetings at OPC Cardiff were indeed very good, but if that option no longer exists then it seems logical that we should look at alternatives - the idea of different meeting places sounds like a good one, then no-one can complain about distance! This would also give other members the opportunity to explore some of the great driving roads, of which we are fortunate to have so many, in other parts of the country![:D] I would certainly be interested in any suggestions for future meetings, and hope that with a little commitment from all interested members we can perhaps make next year a more active one, Regards, Su

Hi Crwys, I agree that it is a possible way forward to arrange meetings at different locations, and if you are, or any one else is willing to undertake to arrange a November/December meeting I would certainly make an effort to attend; with regard to dates, it's worth bearing in mind that the Christmas party is scheduled for 6th December, and the monthly meeting will be on Tuesday 9th, after which as it gets closer to Christmas members may well have family and/or other social/seasonal engagements, so less people may be able to attend; thus a late November meeting might be preferable. Might I suggest that perhaps those of us who are able to make the journey to Peterstone Court could use the opportunity presented by the next monthly meeting on Tuesday November 4th to discuss this with Ian, as it seems to me that if a system of changing venues is to work, good communication will be vital to its success! I am sure Ian would be able to help with this! Best wishes, Su P.S. Great news about the turbo - I look forward to seeing it![:D]

Good to read all this. I spoke to OPC Cardiff manager not so long ago and he seemed more than willing to play ball but I think that we'd have to be reasonable when it comes to asking them to stay open in the evening, etc - especially given the current economic circs! Some nice dry, cold, crisp winter weather would make all this so much easier!
By the way, I have just aquired a 996 turbo and she's beautifull !!
...mmmmm. I'll being keeping an eye out for you![;)]

reference is being made to a monthly meeting at peterstone court on 4th november. in what publication is this noted. ian doesn't seem to be sending any e-mails out these days. i have asked for more details about the gower tour, but have received no feedback on the issue of the opc, as a customer of theirs i have had two meetings with them recently, and in the last one about 3 weeks ago they said they were going to invite the club ,via ian ,to an open day this weekend. again haven't heard anything more

...This weekend?! I haven't heard anything about this....? Anyone else know what's going on...?

Good to see that there is enthusiasm for regular meetings. I understand it is difficult to travel during the week for just a chat. I have often spoken against the regular monthly meeting in one place, as we are so spread, and suggested 10 to 12 events per year. Lets all get together and plan next year - but come with ideas and venues to suggest if you can. Please remember we have a meeting for November, the Gower tour on the 9th, which is low cost, casual and driving our cars. We also have a December meeting, The Christmas party, with a speaker who has an amazing knowledge of Porsche. You can also see some very special Porsches. Lets think about planning next year - see you on the 4th Nov. Terry

Hi Guys, I am in the same boat, would like to get more involved and would be more than happy to arrange a monthly meeting in the Bridgend area. I have been out on a few spirited runs with the lads from pistonheads website, the runs have been great, for drivers who enjoy driving the cars over some great roads. Some meets would be great for this purpose, saying that the meet that Ian arranged at motorvation in bridgend was really well attended and also top notch, more of this would be good, combining such an event with a meeting could get more people there and gather some views ! Where have all the people that attended that meeting gone ? The lads from South Wales car club have done a few cost price tracks days at Llandow priced at £65 for the day it was affordable and great fun. I for one would never be able to attend the meetings at the moment, by the time I get home from work there is not enough time to get to the meeting at a decent hour. This year I am yet to renew my club membership. Simon.

Hi, On reading the thread there is much interest in changing the monthly meet. I think this is a pragmatic solution that is more equitable in altering the travel time and distance if it is agreed. Ironically 4th November is my Birthday so I have plans. Glad to see there is mention of the Christmas bash. I do think it would be nice to have more regular communication on here and via email. I think it would also be worthwhile to write a little summary about each event from attendee's to show what people are missing out on[;)] . Regards Alan.

Hi Alan. I may be way off the mark here but my birthday is on the 2nd November and I also have a penchant for using words like "pragmatic", "equitable", "ironically" and "solution". (Susie Dent is also a good friend). Do you have a penchant for using the word "penchant"? (It's French, obviously, but it actually means "leaning") - although, to my expense, I did find out that you can't use it to illustrate the word "slope" or "hill".

Hi Crwys The details of the Gower tour are published in Porsche Post and Ian has e-mailed members in the region. After all the comments on this forum I am amazed there are only 9 people who have booked - surely this is the type of event being requested - driving our cars, a display of members cars and low cost. Only 8 members from our region have booked the Christmas Bash! I will be at Peterstone Court tomorrow (4th) so hope to see you and others to discuss the way forward. Regards Terry

is there definitely a club meeting tomorrow night, ie tues 4th nov. ian hasn't sent out any notification. if it is on, who is going?

Hi Crwys I will leave about 6.45pm. Do you want me to wait down by the Salutation for you? Terry
