Took the car today to my local 'reputable' [
] tyre dealer to have the tracking done and the front wheels balanced. If you followed my previous threads, you'll see the car has been rebuilt since its accident , the only remaining work needed was the above.
I went off to the waiting room , to be told a short time later that...
a) Right front tyre was flat and that the valve was leaking...but being a bolted in valve, likely the tyre would need replacing as they may not be able to re-seal it.
b) Left front tyre was cut and needed replacing (no it wasn't and no it didn't).
c) Right rear tyre was also 'flat' and had suffered significant 'heat' damage, it was so bad apparantly that the only cause of action was...you can fill that bit in.
d) the rear tyres need to be replaced in pairs so...yes you guessed it.
Strange you'd possibly normally notice a flat tyre, and more likely so if 2 were down.
I was also told that the rear tyre posed a serious risk and that replacing was the only option. Being a Porsche they would naturally be expensive, but they could do me a whole set for £900 fitted and balanced. Thus enabling me to sleep peacefully at night.. (Horlicks anybody ??)
hmmm........
I thanked them for their valuable advice and asked that they replace the faulty valve on the 'Flat' front tyre.. strangely when they removed the inner valve a strange 'hissing noise' began.. residual air presumably, couldn't be anything else as a 'flat' tyre wouldn't make a noise like that would it ? [

The life threatening rear tyre and was inflated to the correct psi and replaced on the car where I nervously awaited the impending explosion, but luckily the tyre stayed intact.
Having paid them a mind numbing £4 for the new valve (rip off I know but needs must) I promised them that I'd very carefully get the car home and consider my options, which I did, via a 60 mile round trip with my 9 year old son to the seaside to get an ice cream and a play in the arcade.
Amazingly I still seem to have 4 intact tyres and having considered my limited options I decided that I will seek a more trustworthy garage to have the tracking done.[
