Everyday tyre choice

I'm gradually coming round to keeping the speedline replicas on my car if I do I'll be needing some new tyres and was wondering what people recceommend for everyday use, basically a decent all round tyre.
Size wise the rims are 9.5" rear and 8" front its currently got 265/35/18 rear and 225/40/18 front, which seem about the right size, although I am tempted to go slightly smaller, 255's rear and 215's front.

On my other cars I use Toyo Proxes T1-R's but they're a bit expensive in 18" ... I pay £32 for them in 15" but they're £132 in 18"
So what do you guys use/reccomend, mik_ok mentioned Falken FK452's, any others I should be considerring, what about Nankang NS-2's? I like the price, but have a feeling they'll be poop ...

Thx
Chris

I have Goodyear Eagle F1's, I fine them very good but have not tried any other on the 44. They were £113 for the rears 9.5 x 17"

They grip very well both in the dry and wet, see Evo mag guide.

Saying that I had a side-wall fail on one and just last week a mate had all 4 side-walls fail on his but he had worn them past the marks.

I'm a fan of the T1R too.

Luke, trust your feelings. Use the force.

I haven't heard a bad thing about the Toyos but I have heard the Nankangs referred to as KDF's - Korean Ditch Finders :ROFLMAO:

Ok, cross off the Nankangs, so what about Federal SS595's?
I've done a bit of a google and theres not alot about them on the net but what there is seems relatively positive, anyone used them on a 944?

Never tried the Federals.

I've tried Kumho 712's and whilst pretty good in the dry, were poor in both wet and cold conditions. Not tried the more recent KU-31.

I haven't heard a bad word said about the Falken FK452 ~ if I was looking for a budget tyre this would be the one. Try a search on here and you'll find several 944 owners singing its praises.

I'm one of those. I ordered some of the Kuhmo's for the back of my S2 about 9 months ago, and the tyre place cocked up and ended up sending me the (more expensive) Falken's to compensate.

They are very good. I like them. Alot. On the stock D90's (great wheels BTW - very light, very strong, and they look 'right' on the car. Ditch those daft 18's and keep the chassis dynamics the way that Porsche intended) they work very well indeed, and are about (from memory) £45 per side.

I had Conti Sport Contacts on it before (still have at the front), and compared to these, the Falkens have a slightly lower break-away point, but let go much more gradually and progressively, and are much easier to control once there is a bit of movement going on. They are very good in the wet as well, but take a bit of time to warm up.

Oli.

I've just fitted some Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 18" to my turbo and i love them - great in the wet and dry.

Good write up in the recent Evo magazine tyre test persuaded me to get some - 265/35 R & 225/40 F.

Got mine from Camskill Tyres in Cumbria - bought from website and delivered for £426. It cost me £20 to get them fitted and balanced at my local friendly tyre fitters.

Cheers
