Evo has a buying guide for the 996 this month - might help to bump up values a bit.

A mate of mine gets evo and i have read it, good write up in general i think it will do the 996 some good.

Actually bought Evo this morning, and yes a good write-up. As I think I have mentioned before having had a good look at several 997s in dealer showrooms I find the car (along with the Cayman) very tinny and 'plasticy' compared to the 996, and although in terms of performance and technology it is clearly an advancement, I think they have missed something of the true Porsche feel of solidity and spartan performance the 996 retained...

The arrival of the 997 has overshadowed the 996 recently, and some people forget just how good the 996 is.

Between 2002 and 2004 Autocar ran a 3.6 'facelift' 996 C2 as their European Editor's Long Term Test Car. At the end of c.2 years and c.30k miles they said:

"This 911 is about as nice a car as I have ever driven" (Sutcliffe)

"This is a fast car, make no mistake. It'll run to 100 mph in 10.3 secs - less than a second behind the turbo" (Thomas)

"This is the best I have ever driven. It's a brilliant car" (Hallet)

"I'd go one step further; at the moment, from my seat, this is the best car in the world" (Robinson)

"What we like - more or less everything regarding the dynamics; steering, performance, brakes and handling that makes each journey an event. Add the general robustness and practicality, comfortable driving position, plus the sound it makes" (Summary)

Yes, you can buy a new 997 from £65k to £80k, but a really good 996, in the £30k to £55k bracket, is much better value.
