Excessive Tyre wear on 987? Question from Member...

I've received a query from a member.

He has had a Boxster before - a 986 2.7 on 17" wheels fitted with Michelins.

Now has a 987 S on 19" wheels with Contis.

The tyrewear is almost twice the rate - 22,000 miles on the 986 rears, 13,000 on the 19's.

Has anyone else experienced markedly higher tyrewear on the 987? Or is it a function of the larger wheel sizes?

I am aware that 997's on Michelins have been experiencing high wear - but I thought that this was mainly due to the tyres, and that Michelin are investigating?

22000 miles on a pair of rear tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [&:] [&:] [&:] [&:].

Does he use it as a hearse?

12k is about par for my rears Pilot's and Conti's alike with the fronts changing every other pair of rears.

JCB..

JCB is right - 22k is about what 90% of 986 owners get from their fronts, and an average of 13k from their rears

The bigger the tyre the softer the compound is likely to be too, as they become more grip, and less life, focussed

Of course if you do lots of motorway mileage you might expect the gap to be closer - i'd be well chuffed with 13k from 987S rears.
