Exhaust Baffles

Hilly

New member
Just had a minor service and all was fine except the exhaust baffles are rattling.

Has anyone a suggestion for where to source a new one?

Also, is this a diy job? If so, do I need to renew any other bits when fitting?

The silencers are easy enough to fit,it's the removal of the old ones that caused me problems. If corrosion isn't too bad you shouldn't have any problems although I would get new clamps and bolts just in case.

I would keep an eye on eBay, as you quite often see good condition silencers on there. It is about an hour or so to change them, but that is provided that the exhaust clamps aren't all rusted up. Invariably they are, and have to be cut off. Personally, I would get an Indy to do it with all the right gear, rather than grovel around underneath with it on jacks. But then that's probably me getting old......

Beat me to it Gary!

Make sure any replacement is like for like, as tip/manual/C4S baffles will have slightly different mounting points.

I agree with Richard - having had my previous car's baffles replaced it was a PITA even for my mechanic, lots of rust, a bit of welding, not easy.

Is buy buying this sort of thing on ebay really a good idea, unless they are brand new and have warranty, or very cheap, otherwise you go to the hassel of buying and fitting them and then they could go wrong after 6 months etc. The PSE are expensive these days, but i hear there are some good sports alternative that sound great on the market.

Easy way to remove the rusted nuts is drill though them rather that trying to get a grinder our dremill in there.
I replaced my rusted bolts with stainless so next time wont be a stuggle.

I didn't drill though the bolt but across it it that makes sense.
From one flat edge of the nut to the other.
