Exhaust blowing - 996C4S

I got into my car at lunch yesterday and the exhaust has suddenly started blowing from out of nowhere which is unfortunate. Before I take the car to my local PC for inspection, is there any obvious places that these usually go in? Also, I was under the impression that the exhaust was stainless steel, so do these come with any extended warranty or is that just wishful thinking? I do have an after-market warranty with the car, but I would assume exhaust is a wear and tear item? thanks
 
The silencers are stainless steel, but they usually rust at the seams, where they have been welded, which reduces the stainless properties. I doubt you would have any chaince of a warranty or insurance claim.

Personally, I would take it to an independent, and take this opportunity to fit a nice sports system.
 
Thanks for the quick feedback. Would my PC charge just for an inspection? What is the difference between the Porsche exhaust and an independent sports one in terms of quality and price do you think? In addition do you have any recommendations on the best ones? I usually hear good things about the guy at sports and classic in Knutsford so I may consider him possibly if I don't go down the PC route.
 
I'm sure they wouldn't charge for an inspection - nor would Mike at S&C (one of the best in the business). Depending on the model, a pair of genuine Porsche silencers will cost between £800 and £1000+VAT. You can get a high quality aftermarket sports system, such as the Dansk, from places like Type911, for around half that.
 
I think my first job is to get it up on the ramps and inspect it and see where it is blowing. I am assuming that any sort of patch work is useless these days? I had a quick look at the S&C website and he advertises Miltek exhaust at £2000!! ouch and tubi exhausts at £2400! so maybe need to go elsewhere to look at Dansk as they sound more reasonable. thanks
 
I had a blowing exhaust recently. A quick look underneath revealed that all the studs on the joint between the cat and the silencer (both sides) had rusted away to nothing, allowing the joint to open up. All the old studs had to be drilled out and replaced. Not a difficult job on a ramp, though I took the easy way out and had my Indy do it. All sorted now for much less than the cost of a new exhaust. Pretty common I believe.
 
I had the same problem with exhaust blowing which was the 3 studs on the joint between the cat. After cutting off the remainder of the nuts, the studs are on the cat side and I pushed them out using a vise ( or you can use a hammer and punch). I got the new bolts nuts and gasket from porscheshop by post (although can get them from most dealers).
