Exhaust Dust

Hi All,

Came home from work on Friday and the car was sounding like a tractor. Saturday morning was spent under the car. There were no nuts on the studs from the CATs to the mufflers. They had all turned to dust. I amaged to find some washers M8 nuts and spring washer to replace the 6 off required. But the rest look similar.

But the scariest sight was the exhaust manifolds, especially around the bolt heads and bolts themselves. I daren't touch them incase they too turn to dust.

It seems to me one of those jobs that a garage rather than me should do. Is there a large chance that one or more of the manifold bolts will snap off in the head? Would you expect the manifolds to be completely 'gone' on a 52 plate car? Any chance of finding a standard normal pair of manifolds that are not rated at 110db etc. I'd probably look for second hand ones that someone has upgraded.

Oops, I'm rambling.

Dave

Advice please

Yes, it is very likely one or more will snap - it is a very common issue.

I doubt the manifolds themselves are gone. They probably look a lot worse than they actually are.
