Exhaust Exhange

Hi all. How easy is it to change the exhaust on my '98 C2 as sounds like it's now blowing (engine seems more roarty than ever) The walls of the silencers are flaking and wondered if it can be done by a layman or does it require complete strip down? John

If its just the Silencers piece of cake.

Undo three nuts on the mounting plate each side, Undo clamps to Cats and they will slide out. shouldn't need to remove rear wheels or bumper.

Regards.

Ozzie's Page may give you more of an idea, He has done some nice mods and he lives in the UK now and I think he is a member here?.

Anyway credit to OZ951 and hope you don't mind.

^^^^^^ What he said, but in a bit more detail:

It is an easy job, except the exhaust clamp bolts will be badly corroded. If they haven't been off before, you will be hard pushed to recognise the tip clamp bolts (22). Most times, it is best to cut through the bolt or clamp. The joining sleeves (29) don't corrode as badly, and you can give them a good soak in WD-40 the night before. Best to get a new set of clamps before you start.

Jack up the car at the rear, and take off the wheel. Make sure the car is secure on axle stands.

Take off the exhaust tips (21) and undo the clamping sleeves (29). Make sure the sleeve is loose, and slide it along the pipe to expose the joint. Undo the three nuts (16) from the mounting bracket, and the silencer will come off through the wheel arch.

Leave bracket (28) connected to the silencer, and swap it over to the new one. Bolts 24 and 25 usually need a good spray of WD-40 too.

That's all there is to it......

You might be able to leave the tips connected, and separate them later, but I haven't tried it..

I just drilled on the the flat edges of the nut then broke the studs off and just put new bolts and nuts in (Stainless of course) unlike OEM.

10 minute job.

Thanks all for that. Nearside silencer blowing badly now from joint so will have to do asap. Looks simple enough. John
