Exhaust front section question...

Hi,

After looking at my 1990 S2 today, it seems that i will need a new front section. I think someone has removed the rotten catalitic convertor and replaced it with a length of tube welded in. My question is, can i use the front silencer from an early 944 2.5, as these are very cheap £25 and i think are the same??, or do i have to pay through the nose for an S2 one, which i cant find on any GSF ECP sites by the way!

Any advice is much appreaciated.

Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark,
Have you tried Berlyn Services? Bert normally does excellent prices on good exhausts and has the knowledge to tell you what will and will not work.

Personally whilst I can't comment on whether the internals of the silencer are the same, I can say that (on my car at least) there was no way the S2 downpipe would have worked with the front section of the 8v exhaust without a lot of work (which is what I believe you were thinking of).

Firstly, thanks for the link to Berlyn Services site, I didnt know it existed. Thats a shame that they arent compatible, as the 16V front pipe is over £200. Think i will try and get one from a breakers, unless anyone knows where i can get one for a reasonable price?

Cheers, Mark.

What's actually wrong with your original pipe, is it holed somewhere? Your original post says the cat has been replaced with a straight pipe, this is fairly common and as long as it's done properly with good quality exaust tubing then it should be fine.
