Exhaust pipes refresh

Hi,

With car now 4 years old, my standard exhaust tails have that 'tarnished' look which I guess is mainly heat induced. I'd like to achieve a nice chrome look without the expense of buying a new exhaust system. Is it simply a case of locating the correct size screw-on end pipe covers that I remember buying for other cars over the years?

Cheers,
Mike.

"4 Years old" So is that a "facelift" model (glass rear window?)

If so then the answer is yes - there is just a single bolt that you undo and the tip just swaps over.
If it is the pre-facelift then the tip is an integral part of the silencer box.

Won't it just polish up with some autosol?

Mine has a distinctly brownish tint to it that no amount of Autosol and elbow grease can shift. [&:]

John/Mark, is the tail not Stainless Steel? Not yet got round to taking mine off for a scrub up.

If it is Stainless (and it looks like it to me), it should come up a treat following a bit of mild abrasion with perhaps 1200 grit emery. Then a polish with Autosol to bring out the shine! [8D]

Both the oval and twin pipe trims are stainless steel - wire wool, fine emery or a scotchbrite pad and finally some Autosol will get it back to new. But why have you left it 4 years [:(] ??

You can also get a good result on the silencer box with Autosol and a wire wool - this didn;t take more than an hour from start to finish ...

I have a twin (side by side) exhaust on a 03 3.2s which i assume was standard and is definately tarnished. Will this work on my tailpipes too?
