Exhaust pops and bangs

At the risk of being completely flamed - pun intended - I love seeing videos of 964s and the like tearing round the 'Ring popping flames and bangs out of the exhaust as they go from full throttle to hard on the brakes. I know that our advanced machines are nowhere near as agricultural and have the benefit of more modern electrics but I can't help but think it would add to the somewhat lacklustre sound of the car.

I wondered if you advanced the idle connector on the side of the throttle body round so it was always "clicked" would this allow the necessary bit of overfuelling needed when coming off the power without any nasty side effects?

If I'm getting a rorty exhaust then I may as well go big or go home :)

You can get a good flameout on a tuned 944 turbo. You just never see it as good from inside the car.

some of us pay good money for that extra pop and bang from our turbo's....I love it...oh and the 'dump to atmosphere' BOV too..oh and not forgetting the chatter of the wastegate...oh and...well you get my drift, I could go on all day.....love it....:)

Yup, can't beat a bit of good flameage [:D]

Eldaovo, don't think setting the TPS to always clicked will do it though - plus I think it needs to click to the off position to activate the idle maps and may cause problems with drivability in slow traffic when you transition from on/off throttle. You can easily try it out though!

Correct mate switch turns on idle map. Will run really high idle without. Best bet is foot in the carpet in third for a good bit then let of and dump all the unburnt fuel into the exhaust. Always works for me [:D]

Yes I love the snap crackle and pop noises my car makes these days. Certainly adds to the driving experience ! [:D]

Do you have a stock exhaust? If so chopping the centre box out of mine has introduced some pops and bangs although I'm not sure about flames!..

Edit just seen you're booked in for a new custom job so that should do the trick!

Same as Him [8D]!

Custom exhaust should help and I've got some 55lb injectors to fit too.

I won't turn the FQS to +3% fuelling then for flames ;)

Red turbo ticks those boxes....Massive injectors, loads of carefully mapped fuel,a 4 inch exhaust gets more pops and bangs than you can shake a stick at,not to mention the flames, chirrups, sighs and whooshes [:D],then a nice metallic squeal from the race pads as you come to a halt.

Slightly OT, how much extra drone has the created inside the car?

Surprisingly enough, none at all! Under normal driving conditions she's as quiet as she's ever been, it's just a little louder under boost, overrun and at idle. That box weighs a fair whack two.

Mine has a full Hayward & Scott system from the turbo back and when I fitted the centre section, which is straight through with no silencer, it made no difference to the noise inside the car. Ok, perhaps slightly louder, but no droning and still relatively civilised under normal driving.

I used to have pops and bangs from the 924 turbo between gear changes and over run. With the new electronic distributor/ignition curve they have now gone. I need pops, bangs and flames back in my life.
