Exhaust Problem

I have a 2013 991 C2S with a standard exhaust system that has done 16k miles. I was cruising along a motorway a couple of weeks ago and the exhaust suddenly got louder and there is now an annoying boom/resonance between 2000 and 3000rpm. Motorway cruising speed in other words.

I booked the car into OPC Hatfield to get it checked and they thought it might be a vacuum pipe which is part of a recall on some 991s. However they have carried out the recall work but it has not solved the problem. The car is going back to Hatfield in the New Year for further investigation.

A bit of internet searching uncovered a few articles about problems with solenoids and vacuum pipes so it sounds as if I am not the only one with an issue.

The exhaust currently sounds like it's half way between a standard exhaust and a sport exhaust, that would be OK if you could turn it off to stop the droning on a motorway journey!

Anyone else had any issues?

Not an issue I've come across, Terry. It may be solely the standard exhaust that is affected, and most of the 991 Register owners have PSE fitted. I didn't have a recall for anything to do with the exhaust system on my car, so can't help.

Just enjoy the 'music' being a bit louder and avoid all motorways [;)]

The car has now been back to Hatfield and the problem has been solved by the replacement of the exhaust valve/solenoid. I did initially get the "they all sound like that sir" but with a bit of persistence on my part they did rectify the problem
