Exhaust question (not the usual one)

Quick exhaust question:

Apart from having different tips (or so I believe) is there any operational difference between a set of C2 back boxes from a 2003 car and a pre-facelift 2000 car?

I am looking to be able to fit the later boxes onto an earlier car - I assume that the tips will fit the rear bumper gaps OK too?

Thanks in advance

Guy

The silencers are slightly different internally between pre and post facelift, but the external fittings are the same. You shouldn't have any problem.

Edit: I couldn't say if the 03 tips will fit the rear bumper openings, but you could use your original tips on the new boxes.

I had pre-facelift backboxes fitted to my post-facelift car (twice!) and the mounting brackets are located in slightly different places. Nothing a welder couldn't manage in a few minutes.

Thanks Richard / Rodney, you're a mine of useful information as ever.

I'm looking to get the Oettle style modification done but I want to be able to swap back to standard should I need to. I've found a set of back-boxes but they are from an 03 car hence the question. I am going to get the 03 ones modified and fitted and keep the current back boxes standard in case I need them.

I think the difference may be between tiptronic backboxes and manual ones. Richard, do they have different part numbers?

If you haven't already, it's worth considering Hayward and Scott to do the modification as well. Would work out slightly cheaper as well from the Oettle conversion / sending the boxes over to Germany.

I think you are correct, but, strangely enough, there are different numbers for manual and tiptronic on 3.4 cars, but only one number for standard 3.6s. That's probably why the 3.6 box fitted my 3.4 tip, but the 3.4 one you had didn't fit your 3.6. Confusing...... (There is a different number for the C4S, btw.)
