Exhaust Questions - S2

Hey Guys,

Just been looking under the car and had some questions about the exhaust, it looks like it has a cat on it, then another small box then the back box.

What is the little box in-between the cat and the back box?

Its a Dansk exhaust, can i make this system sound louder with mods?

Does a 1991 S2 need a Cat to pass an MOT?

The little box is a small muffler that is part of the rear Dansk exhaust.

Many people cut out the cat and replace it with a straight piece of stainless. This does make it louder but not uncomfortably so.

I had this done by a local exhaust place when my cat became holed, it cost circa £100. I have no problems passing the emissions test

Awesome thanks Paul.

So i guess a Cat bypass pipe is actually just a piece of pipe right?

Thanks
Jamie

Here's an S2 exhaust without the cat but retaining the centre silencer, I'd be tempted to get rid of both and keep the Dansk back box, should be pretty cheap if you know a decent exhaust builder.

Ive ordered a Cat bypass from promix, going to try and fit it myself! no idea how hard it is, it looks simple enough famous last words haha

It is simple -2 or 3 bolts either end with appropriate gaskets, biggest thing is to get the car high enough to work under, ramps or jacks and axle stands.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure the Promax Cat Bypass requires the front pipe to be cut forward of the original Cat.

The 'Bypass' then bolts to the rear box with a three bolt flange, but the front slips over the pipe that you cut and is secured with a 'U' clamp
