Exhaust Rear Box

The tailpipe has just fallen off my 1989 944 Turbo and looks rusty but the box itself appears to be stainless steel and sound. Can you weld in a new pipe or is it a new box that is needed. If so, any suggestions on type or supplier.

I do know that a new tailpipe can be welded on because that is exactly what Tony on this forum has done (userid 944Turbo). I think he' s out of the country at the moment but will surely answer on his return.

The 924turbo rear box is the same as the 944 turbo up to 90 MY with the exception of the rear bracket
I can supply a good quality aftermarket 924 turbo rear box for ÂŁ96.00 plus vat

Hi Bert,

looking at the second link at the bottom og your message, I was wondering whether you are involved in boating?

Best regards

Emilios

I have found a local firm that makes exhuasts and they will weld a new tailpipe on as they confirm the stainless steel backbox is sound
Bert, thanks for the tip on the 924 box being the same

Lawrence can you post back your findings and who did the work when you have had it done?

The tip of my S2 exhaust gets rustier and rustier each year and I' m sure it' s not long before it falls off.

Will do. You are probably already aware that a new chrome end cover can be bought from your OPC for ÂŁ12( a rare Porsche bargain). The master plan is to form twin 2 1/2" pipes as Boxster S.

Yeah I put one of those on when I got the car 5 years ago because the original was missing. Looks fine now (but I know whats underneath [;)])

Lawrence, Did you realise you had two userids - LawrenceQuinn and Lawrence Quinn? Confused the heck out of me [&:] when I could see you had posted 3 times in this topic yet your count only said 2 ?????

I had the work done today by a firm called Freeflow who are in Bathgate in Central Scotland, photo att

You can come anshow it off tomorrow at kincardine

See message titled central Scotland meet[:)]

Looks mighty impressive, Lawrie. Might just have to break mine off on purpose, to effect a similar repair!! :p

Cheers Lawrence, it' s useful to know that it can be done without replacing the whole rear box. Are the two exits welded onto the rear box or do they go into one pipe that is then welded on? I don' t understand how you can have two exits frm a box that initiallly had just one [&:]

It was a stock item. It is an inverted ' Y' and a single pipe connection. There is a jet whoosh at 5000 revs plus which gave me heart failure the first time it happened but I now quite like the sound.

Oi, get off our section of the forum, cheeky Kilt Salesman! This is for owners of fast cars only! [8D]

I' ll refer you to our trip up to Kincardine the other night and remind you which car the two guys were more interested in[:)] 40 years and still counting[:D]
