Exhaust suppliers for 1988 carrera 3.2

Hi, can anyone recommend good exhaust part suppliers ?
I need to replace some or all of my carrera 3.2 exhaust system, depending on which bolts will come out without damage.
It will be at least the small silencer, possibly also the big one, both manifolds, and the parts which hold it all together and to the car.
Because we don't know how much will be replaced, and a garage will be doing the work for me, we need to get the latter parts on sale or return.

Thanks !

Rather than attempt to replace individual original parts would it not be better/more economical to consider replacing the whole exhaust system with an after market alternative. There are a host of places selling better quality, stainless systems which are going to last considerably longer than the originals and cost consdierably less I suspect.

Places like Design 911 (www.design911.co.uk) certainly list items for the 3.2 and there are lots of others I'm sure.

I had a similar dilema about 2 years ago when my 85 carrera exhaust gave up, looked around at the variuos options and went for the Hayward & Scott stainless steel system, not cheap at £1600 + Vat[:(], but should last forever, the sound is to die for and possibly get a few more bhp from the engine. The main problem with changing the exhaust is the exhaust manifold bolts which tend to be seized into the head. A good gargae should know what they are doing.

There are some vidoe clips on the net detailing the sound of the Hayward & Scott exhaust, once you have heard that noise you will definately want one.[:)]

I fitted a Dansk full s/s system including heat exchangers. Hayward & Scott would have been my second choice. The mechanic that I was using is a 25+ year prosche specialist who has prepared race cars, rally cars track cars etc. His advice on many other areas of engine/car prep was spot on so I'm confident following his advice. His view is that the standard mild steel exhaust is as good as anything, but for longlevity, pay the extra for s/steel, the Dansk system being as good as any other, well proven and reliable.
The full s/s system will last almost indefinitely, the noise is sharper and slightly louder than original without being antisocial.

a cheaper alternative, although not sure he does the heat exchangers?

I'd recommend Turbo Thomas too, I sourced some nearly new stainless steel heat exchangers of US Ebay and Turbo Thomas fitted up the silencer and pre-silencer with his own design. I did before and afters on the dyno and achieved about 10bhp more. He's UK based, he builds them himself and you keep your money local.

Mines been on nearly 2 years with at least half that daily driving, it sounds great but not intrusive when you just want to dawdle or stuck in the traffic.

I have a full second hand system off my 3.2 clubsport as I have replaced it with SSI and rallye type exhaust. The system is in good condition and I can send some pictures if you are interested think the invoice from Lovetts was £1500 in 2004 and the car has only done 15000 dry miles since then. £250 for the lot including heat exchangers if your prepared to collect.

Oe Porsche system fitted by Dick Lovett who is a dealer principle for Porsche. It appears to be a stainless silencer with steel heat exchangers and pre silencer.

One point about the Harward and Scott system. If its the full equal length headers, they need to be removed to access the lower valve covers when they require adjustment during a service. They may have overcome this on the latest designs but you should check that before you buy if thats the way you go.

I wouldn't bother with anything from Design911 for fear of inferior parts.

Dansk & SSI are quality aftermarket parts, beware of imitations or SSI style etc etc.
