Exhaust Systems

Looking to replace my exhaust system over the winter. I want to improve the sound and gas flow at the same time. Don't want to cut any bits out of the rear valance or go the whole way with SSI's as I have quite new stainless heat exchangers.

At the moment I am leaning towards Hayward and Scott as their quality and knowledge appears to be pretty good.

Any experiences would be appreciated guys.

Steve

I have just had a Hayward and Scott fitted and have to say sounds lovely, very deep and not too loud except when over about 4000rpm.

Only problem i had was that i mail ordered and the fit was a bit out so they told me to get my local porsche specialist to sort it and then bill them, which i thought was good service. must say though i was surprised that the fit was wrong with all their porsche experience.

Having said all that, if you take the car to them tobe done i'm sure the fit will be perfect. (I didn't as i live in Manchester and they are based in Essex.)

Thanks for that Andy.

Their location is not too bad for me here in Cambridgeshire, about an hour and a half, so worth the drive for a fitted service, which now seems a good idea based on your experience.

What's the resonance level like? Some systems I have heard seem to have a problem around 3000rpm which can get a little wearing.

Cant say i've noticed any but not had chance for a good drive yet due to bad manchester weather recently.

It does pop and fart a bit on downshifts which some may not like, personally i love it, but that may be due to the straight through Dansk sports pre silencer i have.

I was going to go down the sports pre-silencer route as well so that's interesting to hear.

I'm with you on the popping, think it adds to the overall effect and wouldn't bother me.

Hi Steve

I now have a Hayward and Scott rear box (with the 3in rear tailpipe) fitted to my 3.2. See attached picture. It really does sound as good as WC describes above.

I felt that I had some resonance at around 2600-3000 rpm when I first had it fitted, but after putting some more miles on it, this has now disappeared.

I have it fitted with a standard OE pre-silencer so I don't get the popping noises on the overrun/downshift.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Anil

Anil - Thanks for the picture and your experiences. The more I look into this the more I'm convinced that it's the best option.

I need to replace the whole thing as my crossover pipe took a direct hit from some road debris which has squashed it to half its diameter. I'll talk to H & S about the pro's and cons of the sports pre-silencer before getting it done.

Anybody else got experience of any other non SSI systems?

Steve,

I bought an as new stainless back box for my car that I believe came from Stuttgart Connection. It seems very good quality, and is certainly not lightweight.

It has a lovely 'bark' from 3,500 revs onwards, and does pop and bang a little on down shifts - all very nice.

I have the standard pre-silencer and crossover pipe.

Best thing is, it pushed my otherwise standard 135,000 mile engine to 240bhp !

I have been looking long and hard into aftermarket exhausts for my 930 turbo. It came down to A choice of two options. H & S for quality and fitting service with guarrantee.Quite expensive tho.The cheaper route would be to import from a U.S. specialist - GHL racing or B&B. and find someone to fit it here.Good to hear that you guys have been happy with H&S.
