Exhaust time... help?

Hi all,

Right January is approaching and I fancy spending on the 996... to put you in the picture its an '01 C2 3.4 and I was hoping that I could chase you guys for some advice... exhausts!

It still currently has the standard system, but fancied something a little bit throatier, maybe a PSE... which I was quoted £950 (from a specialist plus fitting) however, I have spoken to design911 who recommended a DesignTek which appears to be great value for money... does anyone have one or have heard one? It appears to tick all the boxes... is it a good replacement for the standard boxes... obviously i'll replace the tail ends as well.

Any advice is much apreciated.

Cheers

Chris

ps. how much would you expect to pay for fitting....?

Scouser has a Fabspeed system fitted on his 3.4 - its sounds great, not quite as harsh as the Porsche PSE, but about 85% there, which is a good compromise IMO

My car has the PSE exhaust fitted. Not being the slightest bit interested in exhausts being female, when the car was being MOT'd a couple of weeks ago, I went out of the waiting area because I could hear this incredible sportscar roar to see what it was, then realised it was mine on the ramp [:)], so I am a convert.

If you don't want to spend a huge amount of money, think about getting your own exhausts fitted with the PSE-style by-pass pipes. All the sound, but a fraction of the cost.

Thanks for all the advice guys... and gals! No money is not an issue so I guess i'll play it safe and go the PSE route, just the DesignTek offered a lot..

Thanks once again

I had the Fabspeeds (DesignTek = Fabspeed re-badged, I think) on my previous car, a 3.4 C4. They seem to suit that engine well and sounded quite spectacular! They're quite a bit louder than the PSEs though so make sure you're ready for them! The cans are well finished and are both tiny and very light compared to the Porsche items. They're also a 'straight-through' design unlike the Porsche items that are of the 'resonance-chamber' type. Straight through (or absorption) silencers are generally less restrictive so you may have the possibility of a little more top-end power.

The PSEs are also an excellent option and the only one if you have an extended warranty. I have them on my current car and they do sound good. I can also confirm that they don't seem to add any power at all. The only 'but'? The Fabs just sound so much angrier, their feral snarl at full throttle has to be heard to be believed!!

If warranty isn't an issue I'd seriously consider the DesignTek option. You will save money, lose some weight off the car and possibly pick up BHP.

Either way you'll be delighted.

I have the PSE on mine, I'm sure there are better sounding exhausts, but it's great not having to worry about waranty and the quiet button help when you just want to sneek around!

What ever you go for it will transform the car. Go for it !
