Exhaust tips for a pre-facelift 996

Hi,

avid readers will be aware that I've just had PSE fitted...FANTASTIC! Can't recommend it strongly enough.

Anyhow, I've a Y2000 996 C4 cab, and I also decided to have the turbo looks tips (genuine Porsche parts) fitted at the same time.

Now, while they look ok, they do protrude about 1-1.5" further back than the original tips (which were the optional stainless steel tips).

There are no further adjustments possible to reduce the protrusion.

I'm wondering whether there are seperate / different turbo tips available for the pre-facelift and post-facelift models, or not.

Or are they any quality after market (turbo look, preferably) tips which fit more snugly in the cut outs in the bumper than the Porsche tips??

Or maybe I've just got to get used to the new look...?

I'll wash the car tomorrow (weather permitting) and upload a new photo so you can judge for yourselves.

Thanks.

Try the American Fabspeed 'tips'. They are a large, chromed, cross-cut oval specifically for 1999-2001 cars. They are apparently a copy of the Tequipment part that was current at the time and IMHO they really do look the absolute b****cks! They are not expensive and are available from Design 911 and elsewhere.

Glad you are pleased with the results of the PSE.

I am also considering a PSE and would be interested to know:
  • was it fitted by an OPC
  • what the cost was
  • have you had the switch fitted
Terry

Terry,
  • was it fitted by an OPC
    • No. Had a local Porsche trained indi fit the exhaust.
  • what the cost was
    • Mufflers cost £1,080. Fitting cost £86.
  • have you had the switch fitted
    • Nope. I understand that the fitting of the switch can take several hours. I can't justify that, as I don't imagine I'd ever use the switch.
Anyhow, can't recommend PSE strongly enough. You really should get it fitted.

Neil.

These are the ones - there are 2 versions a short one for pre facelift cars and a long one for post facelift (the rear valance is longer on post facelift cars) but the ovals are the same appearance for both. Had them fited on my '99 C4 and they looked superb. Despite the picture, they are all finished in black / chrome, irrespective of whether they are pre or post facelift.

Im getting these exhaust tips fitted to my car this week (as well as a PSE), Ill post some pics at the weekend if you want

My indi fitted the whole lot for me, but the tips appear easy enough to change.

Your original tail pipe clamps will be very rusty, so you'll either have to cut through the bolt, or cut off the bolt head with an angle grinder. Then you'll need some new bolts. If you decide to cut through the clamps then new tail clamps will cost around £7.76 ea (inc discount and VAT).

Fit & tighten your new tips with the clamp and there should be a bolt, toward the rear of the tip (the outward facing end), allowing final adjustment of the tip.

I got the Tips and PSE fitted at the weekend. The new exhaust tips look great, they fill out the rear bumper much better than the standard items and the PSE sounds amazing, although the sound does see to drop when cruising at 3K-4K revs.

There is a valve which closes in the 3-4k range to allow the car to pass drive-by noise regulations. It works irrespective of whether the switch is fitted or not. There is a fix (somewhere - no doubt someone will post) which bypasses it if you so desire.

Hi all I became a proud owner of a c2 back in July, just joined up here tonight. I too am looking to see if I want the PSE. I got quoted 1200 at reading OPC and 900 quid fitting. Is it possible to buy the PSE and get an Indi to fit it? I would like the better tips too.

Anyone from the South west maybe I could have a listen, I am in Bournemouth
