Exhaust to replace - keep it standard?

Can't complain at needing to replace exhaust on my 993 tt as she will be 10 this year.

But - should I be tempted with Cargraphic, Rook, ruf or other or should I get oem??

And whilst I am at it should I change induction side??

And if I do should I get ECU tweaked if airflow rate changes?

As I am a track day junkie I need to keep reasonable db level even though I almost didn't get into Goodwood with the standard exhaust last year.

Any suggestions would be good - (haven't seem many 993tt users in the forum)

Car Graphic possibly one way to go, have used them on a couple of cars ,one Turbo one normally aspirated ...................gives 101 db static but a little high where they test on drive by, racing cats worth the extra noise for what u get .......Stuttgart connection can supply over here and Mark King can help with exact requiremnets . Ecu wise u apy ur money and takes your choice but personally just changing a chip seems a very imperfect way of doing it If U use someone like Wayne Schofield [ Chips wizard ] he can remap the whole thing from scratchand produce some amazing results ............above all hes done a lot of 993 's, sometimes he insists on changing the injectors [ safety precaution in most cases] Total result on a car like urs ,Exhaust ,cats and remapping ..........AMAZING !

Here's one 993TT user regularly in the forum.
Am a little surprised at your Goodwood narrow squeak. I was there last August and my standard exhaust was well below their limits. At other track venues I have asked colleagues how mine sounds as it passes - most just say it's Whispering Death.
Surely the turbos' are inclined to mute the exhaust sound somewhat.
I would be careful about aftermarket exhausts because I think they are bound to raise the noise level - and we all know the way things are going on UK circuits these days.
I would also be very careful about performance mods as well. Our engine can be easily modified to produce much higher HP/torque but these are not cheap mods. The US boys on www.993tt.com/mods reckon on about £100 per HP, because you have to consider intercooler, turbos, fuel pressure as well as ECU ( a complete new ECU would be required for pre-1997 cars to be modded). They also say forget sports cats - minimal gain, more noise, don't bother.
NB the factory modded my beast to 430BHP (DMS,another oil cooler) and offer 450BHP (DMS, turbos, yet another oil cooler), but that's it. Above these figures and you are into big bucks, big worry about whom to consult in UK, and lots of noise.
In summary, track day junkie, just fit OEM and enjoy that creamy, reliable power.
NNB will be at Goodwood 3 Aug this year - may see you there.

Goodwood seems to be the worst for noise - last time was a geezer from the council trying to ban everyone he could. The only 2 of us who had problems was me and an early 996 c2 also standard. I wondered if the extra fan and mechanical noise on a Porsche was to blame. On drive by we must have been the quietest on track. My rattling baffles didn't help.

As for upping the power Steve at JZ can offer a turbo upgrade, uprated clutch, exhaust system, inlet and ecu rejig for about £7k and he claims 500 bhp. As I use car daily I think not for me but who knows if I will succumb in a moment of weakness? My first job though is set of track wheels and pads...

On the question of Turbo noise on Track mine reads 101 at Goodwood static but on the drive by actually a little more, when the turbos cut in allthough burning exhaust gasses noise at least same as static usually more . I also have car Graphic exhaust/ Race cats on a clubsport normally aspirated thats 103 staic but less than 90 on drive by ..............Phil if ur going to modify the engine on a 10 year old car , mileage almost irrelevant i suggest u look hard at the state of the engine as it is before proceeding................once u start putting the right rods in and race type seals, solid lifters etc u can reach 600plus for the money ur talking abt ................exhaust, injectors and remap clearly can produce either side of 500 with ur engine in relative safety, if ur engine is sound to start with, for modest money

Vic - who do you use for this work? If I could go to maybe 450 for a reasonable cost - could be tempted.

All my tuning work on gt2 done in Germany,...............in UK i use Steve Winter at Jaz , Wembley Stadium being a good deal nearer than Munster for u and me !he has close links with PSI [Rupert Lewins 996 gtr comes from PSI] a chat with Steve o2o8 903 1118 or better a chat face to face will reveal all ...............pesonally i think u can achieve what u want safely with modest outlay, choosing how u want it , remapping the ECU alone will do wonders but combined with exhaust , maybe injectors or even larger turbos u ll be up there ..........................

Yer but Mo if we get a ride together this year its now giving full potential............it was only about 75% at Silverstone last time ...............................pity abt the driver , but there s still time for me too!!!!
