Exhaust Trim Question frm New Member

Hello all, new member with a first post here. Santa Claus was kind enough to bring me a nice shiney new exhaust trim for my beloved S2, rushing out on boxing day to fit and I discovered that my manky existing trim is rotten right through to the bare pipe, ie. the metal shrowd the stainless trim fits over has disintegrated!!!

I was just wondering if any of you out there have encountered this problem and how you got over it. It would be simple to put four bolts through and you would have a 'Halfords-esque' exhaust trim, but i dont want it looking too obvious!!!

many thanks.

Unfortunatley the tailpipe is the weakest part of the entire system and they always eventually rsut through so that you cannot simply slip a new trim over the top.

Solutions would be to find someone local prepared to grind off the old taipipe and weld on a new one that looked respectable. I couldn't find anyone willing for a reasonable price (under £50) so just bought a new Dansk Stainess rear box for circa £150 from Bert at www.partsforporsche.co.uk You also see them on Ebay every week from a trader called Annantone sometimes as cheap as £130

Yeah, that was my first/worst thought!! [:(] looks like a bit of bodging at the weeknd then. Thanks anyways, much appreciated.[:)]

I'd strongly suggest you do as Paul proposes. The tailpipe will fall off soon, the car will be very, very noisy and embarrassing when it does, you'll lose your shiny new trim and you'll have to buy the rear box anyway.

Can you return the trim if it's genuine, or failing that sell it on eBay?
