Exhaust Upgrade Options?

What are my options for an exhaust upgrade to my 993C2S? A little extra HP would be nice, but my priority is improving the sound. An airbox upgrade seems inexpensive and improves sound, but no additional HP. I've heard good things about TubiStyle, what about an OEM Porsche sports exhaust?

Peter,

Not sure where in the country you are, but I have first generation Supercups on mine which I am happy to demo to you. I live in Northampton. I love them, and I drive my car every day. They come with baffle inserts to reduce the noise somewhat, but when you take the baffles out, you'll be heard coming!

I am with Gordon on this - RSR's are not pricey and as you can get them on sale or return you don't have a lot to lose.

They definitely improve the sound but if you are after really loud you may be a little disappointed.

yes the americans do seem to love them, where the cat under the rear bumper is taken off and substituted with two straight through pipes to the back boxes. I tried them and found them very noisey, with a horrible bag of spanners sound, I was saving a fortune in petrol as the noise was that loud I was changing gear at 4500 rpm thinking it was the red line. Everyone said the sound is awful and I thought they spoilt smooth feeling of the car. I also felt that I'd lost some low down torque on my varioram engine. Could'nt get them off quick enough!!

I have tried two options.

First off I modified a spare pair of silencers by welding a 1.5" diameter pipe between the inlet and outlet - made a great difference outside the car, similar to RSRs but a little louder, not so much difference inside the car.

After that I tried the Fabspeed supercups - wow, loud and aggressive, especially inside the car, totally transforms the sound - more powerboat than 911, but they sound superb at the top end. Unfortunately they are VERY loud inside the car at low RPM.

Next will be cat bypass pipes with the modified silencers or perhaps OEM silencers... We'll see.

I've tried to attach a picture of the modified silencers,

If the Cat bypass route is good, the supercups may be for sale.

Hi David, my by-pass pipes are 50mm Dansk with fitting for the oxygen sensor, the noise when fitted with the standard boxes was not to mine or any ones elses liking, definitly non Porsche sounding. I also have a spare pair of boxes which I intend to cut open and see whats inside and modify from there. Lets us know what you find with your experimenting.

David

David thanks for replying to my earlier note re the exhaust bypass pipes. I think I'm going to do that also but go for the larger 2 inch pipes.......

I think if i did the mod again 2" pipes would be my choice too.

We are not so far away if you need to audition the ones I have.
