Exhaust upgrade

I've been considering upgrading the exhaust inc. de-cat on my '90 S.2 and have had a quote from

http://www.exhaustuk.co.uk which is a lot cheaper than many other options available. The price included fitting and is still worth driving 200 mile round trip for the saving. Good range of tail pipes to suit all tastes!

Would be interested to hear if has anybody used these people

'90 S.2 Looking for a bit more va va voom!

Do they have a system for your car? Is it a bit of pipe that fits or has it been developed to improve perfomance by managing back pressure and/or pulse tuning?

If the answer to both is yes then it sounds good, if either is no then maybe you're getting what you pay for.

Edited 'cause I just realised the second one wasn't a yes/no question. Sorry. You get the point though I'm sure.

Took onboard your comments and spoke to Simon at ESS.

Sounds like a better route and good news that I can retain
the existing standard back box for now, which is in good nick[:)]

Thank you Oh Great Sage.

Purchase in haste, repent at leisure(all that glistens will not necessarily make you go faster) !

Wolfie what was the price quoted for a full S2 system including de-cat?

I know that Exhaustuk was recommended by some 968 owners on www.968uk.com as good quality work anda good price.

Paul,

I was quoted £369 inc VAT and fitting for a full system plus £69 for a decat pipe. Phoned to confirm price of a decat pipe on its own and was told they'd do it for £69! Bearing in mind my system is in good shape, my dilemna is :

Option 1 : A cheap decat only "pipe"? from www.exhaustuk.co.uk

Option 2 : Janspeed - decat + adaptor £158.41 +vat + fitting

Option 3 : Other Janspeed developed options - About £195 + vat + fitting

Option 4: Anything else you'd like to suggest

I'm also trying to consider the implications when I come to eventually replace the back box, which ever decat option I choose. Aaaargh....the more I learn, the less I know ! Further complicated by the fact that the standard S.2's seemed to do as wel at least at Dyno day as those with various mods(chip, decat, exhaust, filter, Optimax) whatever. A chap on Titanic says he got 195 bhp at the wheels at Janspeed +15 bhp with their decat/exhaust - all dynos seem to vary me thinks[;)]

So the bottom line seems to be that a decat should improve performance by around 10-12 bhp and fuel consumption. Several sources have said that the rear box provides relatively little resistance and its the removal of the cat that is largely responsible for any power gain ( plus a chip upgrade of course), but that's yet another elemnt in the equation. Also any money I "save" on this decision can immediately be put towards on the next thing on the 'wish' or 'need to do' list....headlight upgrade, tyres, replace original shockers.......you know how it is

I'll ask the question on the 968 forum, would be interested to hear from anybody who has had a system from www.exhaustuk.co.uk fitted.
