Hi all,

Can anyone give me advice on a rear box for my Boxster S (01 REG).
I have been told that Dansk is a good option and I was looking at the "Supersound" twin rear pipe. It certainly looks good (with the "gattling gun" effect) - but does it sound good and are there any subsequent increases in performance?

Any advice would be gratefully received as I have only had the Boxster 2 months and have already upgraded the lights and fitted 19 inch Carrera wheels.

Thanks,
John.

Replacing the 'box' on it's own will not give any increase in performance - probably the reverse in fact.

Hi all,

Can anyone give me advice on a rear box for my Boxster S (01 REG).

[&o] I have experimented with several a bespoke system made by http://www.haywardandscott.com/ and I ended up with a very TVR sounding Boxster! Some days it was fun and others a pain in the ears :ROFLMAO: Basically the system had a boomy spot between 2200 -3000rpm and this is quite common on a lot of after market systems. My last "S" had a fantastic non booming system by Roock (digi attached) supplied by J Z Machtech steve@jzmachtech.com or TEL:07000 100 911

The car sounded very Ferrari 355 like as opposed to rumbling TVR, had no boom whatsoever and most importantly as JCB mentioned no power loss at all. Something I definitely had with the bespoke system. Basically you can't beat the factory design from a performance point of view but you can easily reverse that when playing with after market systems. The only criticism with the Roock was it could have been a few decibals louder for the money. Its volume was similar to standard cars but a nicer tune came out of its pipes.

I would also consider the factory system which can be bought from several specialists dealing in Porsche parts and accessories for considerably less than your OPC will quote for example http://www.design911.co.uk/index.htm?Region=UK Original Factory System for £739.00

Hope you find what you are looking for as the standard 986 system isn't very exciting for a Porsche sports car, unlike the much improved 987's soundtrack [;)]

I had Janspeed make a system (not an off the shelf system) last year - fitted a pair of free flow cats with it and it's wonderful. A days worth of work at their factory in Salisbury.

An addictice howl above 4,000rpm and a lovely burble at idle. Any extra power? If there is, it's not a huge amount. But for an aural treat it works for me[:D]

Thanks for the advice. Wasn't aware that may actually get a decline in performance by messing with the box - bit worrying really!![&:]

I don't know whether you have found something yet but I have a virtually new stainless steel exhaust that I took of of my track day Boxster as it would not pass the noise test at Goodwood and Castle coombe.
This was made for a racing Boxster so i also have the Cat bypass pipes as well.
It made the car sound more like a GT3 cup car.
I found it fine on the road even though I had all of the sound deadening removed from the car to save weight.

I was considering replacing mine as the previous owner had never cleaned it and although it appears to be stainless it is covered with black hardened soot deposits.
So I thought, lets buy a new one.
Then I saw the price of the cheaper of the two polished silver ones at Design911.

So I am halfway to replacing all the clamp bolts in stainless in order to get the original off & give it a clean.

The Fabspeed one is £458 - club discount + vat
I cannot find any other manufacturer of tailpipes for the boxster other than Fabspeed.
The cheaper one (above link) works out at £376 in total with discount

Sounds like mine the chrome is all tarnished so don't mind a replacement I also think the black finish will enhance the rear end look ,I saw the fab speed but not too keen on modyfing though

I was wondering whether the grotty twin walled part could be cut off and simple stainless tube welded in its place. Harder if you only have the single end though.

If it's any help, I have a Velocity twin tailpipe from USA which had successfully fitted to my 987.2 Cayman S 3.4. It's a straight swap for the OE twin-tailpipe and has a better gas flow design The exhaust note is good also. It's a much heavier construction than the OE tail-pipe.

It's in very good condition but needs a clean-up and a spray with VHT exhaust paint.

PM me if you are interested. I live in Scotland.

Brian

Bought 2010 Boxster S gen 2 6 months ago . Fully detailed it and came to the chrome tailpipes which, as others have mentioned had discoloured spots which wouldn't shift.
A quick waft over with normal satin black from a rattle can, not high temp or any thing, they look great and are lasting well. They tone in better with the black 'diffuser' part as well.

PS I am tight though.??
