exhaust

I'm about to replace the exhaust on my SC and was wondering exaclty what i would need. I'm replacing the pre silencer and rear box. I know i need the 3 gaskets and 9 stainless nuts & bolts, but have read somwhere about crossover pipe seal and washer. Will i need to replace these as well?

You will indeed need the gaskets and fittings that you mention, if you manage to seperate the cross over pipe and heat exchanger flange from the side exhaust the only other items you might need would be new stainless steel bands to secure the rear silencer if the old ones are past it.

It can however be very difficult to seperate old exhaust fittings if they haven't been apart for years and you may need to be prepared to sacrifice your cross over pipe to the grinder/cutter to preserve your heat exchangers if all the joints have rusted up. You will then need one more gasket + bolts to connect a new cross over pipe to the other heat exchanger and may be the clamp/seal for the cross over joint if they don't come with the pipe. Allow twice as long as you were anticipating for the job...

Good luck!!

Thanks for the offer but, i've just ordered a Hayward and Scott Muffler and Dansk pre-muffler/silencer bypass pipe. Still got to wait about 3 weeks for the rear muffler.

I havn't looked at the crossover pipe yet, so when the parts come, if i find i need the crossover pipe i may be in touch if you still have it.

In the mean time i will mention the muffler to a friend of mine who may be interested, is it a stainless one?

Thanks.

Its OE which I believe is stainless but I can't be 100% sure. Over the last 5 years, its appearance hasn't changed and what you can see peering into the internals looks good. At the end of the day, its caveat emptor - and the price would reflect that - but I am confident it has plenty of life left in it.

Thanks for that john
purchased a muffler bypass pipe.... no rear muffler reduces weight of the rear by 30 lbs and the noise wow
also a sports presilencer as well just in case i need to bolt the stainless muffler back on if the neighbours start kicking up..

here is a link to an american site with video demos and sound so have a listen

The only sports exhaust I have first hand experience of for SCs and therefore the only one I would recommend is the Triad West Performance exhaust on my car. With early equal length Heat exchangers there is a noticeable improvement in torque.

Yeah the LeManns Classic was great eh? We took a 930, Ultima Sports and my 911SC. The only one that made it back was mine. The 930 broke it's Ignition module and the Ultima Sports destroyed it's distributor pickup.

I've got a Straight through SS sports exhaust and would totally recommend it. Sounds great and more power. Well worth the wee bit of trouble to install. Had to remove the Exhaust Air Injection system (now in the attic). Also in the kit you get replacement oil pipes.

If you go for this one then you need to check that the clutch arm does not touch the heat exchanger - may need to give the exchanger a tap. (Mine just touches - will have to sort out when next on the ramp).

Can be bought from either Design 911 or Euro Parts.

Good Luck

hi guys the exhust arrived got matt at autowerk to chisil the old preselencer off and replaced with a fabspeedsports presilencer which u could roll a golf ball through took my recent 84mm dansk ss muffler off and put the muffler bypass pipe on ...in effect a straight through ss pipe ...well we drove up the road there was a marked drop off in performance but the noise was phenominal to point of deafness..and car alarms went ,off dogs were worried and children were crying but i grinned from ear to ear...alas i put my muffler back on sunday a coupled with the presilencer sounds great....... anyone want to buy a ss sports muffler bypass used once for 3 days

Sorry chaps this is way off topic, but Carrick, we pulled up on the other side of a péage to chat to some guys in two IB 911s and a yellow Ultima en route to the Classic - I'm guessing it was your posse? We were in a white SC Cab. You guys were trying to agree on a route I think. Anyway, my little brother was driving and as I was saying to you 'follow us', he thought I said 'drop the clutch' and he took off down the motorway, which earned him a slap!

We went a tad wrong on the way there but didn't care, we enjoyed ourselves. Sorry to hear of your buddies mechanical trouble on the way, glad the trusty SC got you home. We did about 3300kms in 9 days or so and every one of them was marvellous.

Cheers, JG

John

Yeah that was us. Got the 930 running just to blow the fuses. Appears to be an issue with the fuse box. So they are starting work on that next. As for me just getting the aircon working then off to Italy next week. Should be a nice drive.

Cheers
