Exhausts... something you've all heard before!?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 986 2.7 PreFacelift (2002) model... and I crave the noise of my sports exhaust on my 996... does anybody know of a rear box replacement that offers a similar sound? (I know it'll never be the same but something more rorty!) I hear the dansk box is quite mild... Does an Eismann rear box fit directly on, or can anybody recommend a box? Is it me or does everyone find the market place quite limited?

Thanks guys

Chris

Best i have heard on a 986 series car is the supersprint system - not the cheapest though. You could opt for the modified boxes for sale from Germany on ebay - they have bypass pipe fitted to take some exhaust gases past the silencer - about as close the the Porsche 986 PSE as you'll get without finding a good used one.

Thanks for the advice Dave...

I took my 996 out yesterday which runs a Fabspeed system (and sounds great)... I am quite tempted to either stick with the brand, or go Eismann (official PSE)... however, does the Boxster PSE require a switch system or is it permantly "ON"? Just a simple rear box change? ...and is there one box that fits all (the 2.7 and 3.2) ???

Thanks once again...

Ah Fabspeed - nice sounding on the 996 for sure, not quite as bassy as the PSe at tickover but after that they run each other pretty close [;)]

With current exchange rates the Fabspeed might be a good option to be honest - just check out the shipping and import costs though !

You could try Simon at Essential Styling , or Jasmine Motorsport, for a new/used PSE

There was also talk of a group buy with Hayward n Scott on the www.boxa.net forum a week or so ago, so that migth be worth looking at too. It was to modify your current back box in a similar manner to the Oettles ones from Germany on ebay. The mods costa bout £200-£250 dependent upon whether you change tailpipes etc. But includes removal, mods and refitting. Better than the Oettles ones at £400+ and then fitting extra. Thanks Dave,

You've spurred me on... I've emailed some enquiries just now... as for the bypass mod, well... its not really for me, especially as H & S is fair distance from where im based.

I've got the H&S mod (its identical to the Oettle mod on ebay) and think its great value for money.

I'm in Milton Keynes, if you are local you are welcome to listen to it....

Hmmm, I would be interested to hear a modified car but again, I live too far away from H&S and my local Exhaust fabricators are not aware of the bypass system so that ended in a no no.

I've just tried to contact ESS but no answer... design911 has a vast number of boxes on the website, but again its a nightmare to choose when you don't how they sound.

The saga continues...
