Exhausts??

The luck continues with my 996! Got it all sorted one way or another and has been running like a dream. [:D]

Then last night when returning home a deer 'dead already' was laying in the road, i had nowhere to go as there was a centre kerb so my only option was to drive over it, unfortunately i was going at a 'decent' speed, wheels either side. Luckily it was high enough at the front not to cause any damage to bumper etc but the animal hit the underside of the car has ripped my exhaust off, snapping the pipework by both CATS! I have had it up on the ramp and it doesn't look good. The manifolds look ok as do the rest of the underside of the car luckily but the rest of the exhaust is hanging off and has snapped in a couple of places. A friend of mine has spot welded it so it doesn't fall off completely to give me chance to get it where it needs to go (sounds like a tractor) I have contacted Porsche main dealer (Cambridge) who were very helpful and have quoted me just over £4,500 for a total system. This is covered under insurance but wonder if there are any other options available to me or should i just let porsche sort it?

Liam,

sorry to hear your bad luck again.

Could be a nice chance to upgrade from the stock exhaust?.

Don't think the insurance would go for it though I reckon they want like for like???

Hi Liam,

Sorry to hear about what happened.

From what I know, a 997 exhaust would not fit 996. Different bends on the pipes and length.

I would get a quote from an indy for a nice sports exhaust. If your insurance company compare it to the one from the OPC, I'm sure they would look on it favourably.

Go for an aftermarket if poss, more often than not will be cheaper than official parts, the best excuse to upgrade your system ever.[;)]
p.s, whats with all the deer jokes, mind his grief.[:(][:(][:(]
